Social Justice education through a holistic approach brings a transformative learning experience to students.
Transformation occurs internally in the learner and also on a social and political context (Moje, 2007, p.4 and Barton and Upadhyay, 2010).
Students develop and become more aware of their consciousness and the purpose behind their existence: “The classroom should thus become the enabling environment in which this critical consciousness is fostered outside of the other social contexts in which the student finds him/herself” (Edwards, 2014, p. 101).
Social Justice Education allows for constant internal reflections of the self in order to understand and find solutions to the injustices that occur in the outside world.
Students construct knowledge through a process that involves a unity between action and reflection upon reality.
Students are given more opportunities to practice and develop human values.
