Our group is at home at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) as a part of the Laboratory for Materials Simulations (LMS), and at the University of Fribourg. Our research focuses on "hunting" characteristic signatures of quantum materials at the intersection of theoretical condensed matter physics and spectroscopy. We are particularly interested in how to quantum properties like band topology, orbital texture and microscopic interactions can be extracted from experiments. We also investigate ultrafast dynamics and transient band structure engineering by tailored light.

New paper on Floquet physcs in gaphene: Nature Physics (2025)
Graphene is one of the most paradigmatic materials for Floquet engineering, where it was predicted that a transient topological state can be induced by strong laser pulses. Observing Floquet physics in graphene turned out the be major challenge - until now. An international research team, supported by theory from our group, finally found the clear fingerprint of Floquet physics in graphene. The results are published in Nature Physics.
Since January 2023, our group has moved to the Laboratory for Materials Simulations (LMS) and to the University of Fribourg. Our group has grown! Welcome to Gian and Juan Felipe!
