This workgroup focuses on supporting to overall physical and mental wellness of students their families, and the community. Wellness begins with access to healthy, nutritious food and safe environments for physical activity. In addition, this workgroup helps to facilitate connections between students, their families, and community residents to vital health and mental health services such as: health exams; vision, eye and hearing screenings; immunization services; dental services; and mental health counseling. The group works to ensure that the school building serves as a point of access for students, families and residents for food resources, physical activity, and to the health services they need. This also includes connecting insurance facilitators/providers with families and residents to assist in health insurance enrollment. When services providers are co-located at the school site or located in the neighborhood, the group works to inform students, families and residents of available services, including communication about health drives, screenings, and other health related events. If services are not locally available in the neighborhood the group helps identify transportation and/or childcare solutions for families.
