Professional Learning Opportunities:

MOVE-to-IMPROVE

Physical activity supports academic success by helping students to remain alert and giving them more energy to learn. Move-to-Improve, the DOE’s elementary classroom-based physical activity program, helps teachers to integrate physical activity into their academic lessons. Both Physical Education and classroom teachers can access and use the Move-to-Improve resources available on WeTeach (opens in new window) to keep students physically active and engaged throughout the school day.

During blended and remote learning, when students may have fewer opportunities to engage in physical activity, all schools are encouraged to become Move-to-Improve All-Star schools. All-Star schools have a comprehensive PE program led by a certified or designated PE teacher, and at least 85% of their elementary teachers are trained in Move-to-Improve. Teachers may be trained in the following ways:

  • PE teachers who have completed the Train-the-Trainer program are Move-to-Improve Champions and may continue to train their classroom teachers and submit sign-in sheets to your Office of School Wellness Programs borough team.

  • Classroom teachers may also register for a Move-to-Improve Workshop.
