We have launched a new and improved Professional Learning Catalog (opens in new window) site, which is now integrated with the Office of School Wellness Programs Wellness Hub. Starting this school year, all professional learning opportunities from our Office are now available only on the new site. This former catalog will no longer be updated.

The CHAMPS Sports and Fitness Program (opens in new window) provides elementary and middle school students of all abilities the opportunity to participate in physical activities and sports programs, before and after school. CHAMPS is an acronym for Cooperative, Healthy, Active, Motivated, Positive, Students.
CHAMPS is coached and supervised by NYC Public School teachers who have current certifications for AED/CPR (opens in new window) and Concussion in Sports (CIS) (opens in new window). Coaches will teach and give students the opportunity to learn, practice, and apply new skills individually, and in team play.

CHAMPS Winter Season Updates
For the 2024–25 winter season, principals of schools with students in elementary and middle school grades should apply online via the CHAMPS Manager by 5:00 p.m. on November 5. The winter season runs from December 2–February 14. Programs will be awarded based on funding availability. For application instructions and eligibility criteria, review the CHAMPS Frequently Asked Questions.
Please note that the program, in its entirety, is contingent on budget availability. If your school intends to apply for a CHAMPS program, you should complete the following requirements in advance to ensure your application can be reviewed:
Teacher Nomination: Identify a NYCPS-licensed physical education teacher or teacher of another academic subject who will be the CHAMPS teacher-coach.
Valid Certifications: All CHAMPS teacher-coaches are required to have the following up-to-date certifications valid through February 14, 2025:
AED/CPR Certificate from Emergency Skills Inc. (ESI), which is authorized by the American Heart Association. ESI is the only NYCPS-contracted vendor for AED/CPR training.
Concussion in Sports (CIS) Certificate from the National Federation of State High School (NFHS) Association.
Your teacher-coach will be required to upload proof of license and certificates in their staff profile on the Wellness Hub before you submit your application. All applications will be reviewed for missing, invalid, and expired teacher-coach certificates. Information regarding the spring season, including the application period, will be shared in an upcoming edition of Principals Digest.
