Often when individuals feel as though they can't control aspects of their life, it can cause anxiety or stress. One way to cope with this stress/anxiety is identify the things you CAN control. It is often more things that you realize.

One way to help children understand this is to have them picture rocks (can't change shape) and play doh (can change shape).

This is a great book that explains different kinds of anxiety that children and adolescents may be experiencing, and gives practical tips on how to help them, and yourselves, learn to manage worry and anxiety. I was able to find it free online through my local library, if you are looking for something to read I highly recommend!
