Our organization works to provide students from underrepresented communities a gateway to STEM by connecting passionate high school students in STEM, like you, with middle schoolers so that they have the opportunity to take a deeper dive into STEM! Our mentees consist of middle school students that are eager learners that want to explore STEM through weekly Google meetings (45-60 minutes) that match your interests and schedule. Mentors are able to host up to 3 sessions per week on the same or different topics of their choice, and so will possibly be paired up with more than one mentees.
The 2026 Summer Session will be held from the week of July 12th to August 15th (5 weeks). Applications will be due on July 1st, 2026 at 11:59 pm EST
There are a variety of STEM related courses available, however there is no guarantee that you will receive your top selected choice, as that depends on whether there are enough mentees for that selected field. We will try our best to fulfill your subject request, but for the best chance to be matched to your top choice, make sure to fill out the application as soon as possible!
As mentors, it is up to you how you want to design the curriculum for the five-weeks and the curriculum may consist of presentations, discussions, videos, or any other course related materials. For a possible brief overview of the courses, be sure to look at the "Courses Option" tab.
Mentors are eligible to receive community service hours for their work. Mentors will receive 45 - 60 minutes of community service time depending on how long the Zoom sessions are. You will also receive an additional 2 hours for the maximum time needed to prepare materials needed for the weekly zoom meetings. Returning members will also get bonus credits.
Program Attendance Policies
Please note that this program requires your full dedication and so in order to not disappoint the trust and commitment of the middle school mentees, you will be expelled from the program if you:
- Miss more than 1 session if you are doing 1 session per week
- Miss more than 2 sessions if you are doing 2 sessions per week
- Miss more than 4 sessions if you are doing 3 sessions per week
A valid excuse must be provided for your absence and you must notify both the program board and your mentee at least 24 hours before your designated session time. Please try to reschedule your session if possible.
As a online-only program as of now, communication is key so it is vital that you check you email everyday for updates and communicate with your mentees. For security reasons, Gmail and Google Hangouts will be the main mode of communication between mentors and mentees. If you feel like another platform for communication is more convenient, please email the program board to confirm!
