Schofield Arrival Procedures & Dismissal Reminders - Updated 8.26.23
Safety is our number one priority at Schofield. In partnership with the Wellesley Police Department and with the help of some Schofield families, we are making some changes to improve the safety and efficiency of our morning arrival procedures. As with anything new, we anticipate that it may take a few days to settle into a rhythm. Office Poirier will be at Schofield on Monday morning to add an additional layer of safety while we adjust to this new routine. There is a video and a new map below for your reference. Thank you, in advance, for your patience. Beginning Monday, September 12th:
ARRIVAL:
All cars for student drop off should stay in one line on the right side of the access road into Schofield School. All students MUST exit on the right side (passenger side) of the vehicle so they may walk directly onto the sidewalk.
Kindergarten students will report to the front doors of the school where they will be met by a staff member who will supervise them until school begins. Students in grades 1-5 will gather on the blacktop near the playground.
Cars will pull as far up as they can and begin to unload. Students can exit their vehicle anywhere from the basketball courts to zone #1 (marked with a red sign).
Grown ups must remain in their vehicles. It is helpful to have your children ready to exit the vehicle with their backpacks in hand. Please say your goodbyes before you reach the drop-off location so your child can quickly exit the vehicle.
Please wait until the cars in front of you have unloaded. Do not pull out into traffic or attempt to pass by other cars.
If you need to get out of your car, we ask that you park your vehicle in the “Visitor Parking” spaces (formerly known as “Staff Parking”). These parking spaces will allow families to walk safely to the school using the sidewalk and the crosswalk.
Please drive slowly while on campus and refrain from using your cell phone (except if it is in hands-free mode).
If your child arrives after 8:30 and you do not see staff members outside greeting students, please park in a designated parking space and walk your child into the office.
DISMISSAL:
Dismissal will remain the same. A few reminders:
If you are at the front of the carline, please pull up to the stop sign at the crosswalk so we can get as many cars off of Cedar Street as possible.
So that we can easily identify which child(ren) you are picking up, please continue to display your car tag on your dashboard.
Do not pass by cars once you pick up your child(ren).
Attendance:
Attendance will be taken daily via Powerschool by the classroom teacher. Students need to be present for a minimum of half a school day to be considered present for the day. Please use the absence/tardy/dismissal online form. We need to document every child’s absence.
