Social movement engagement often begins in the form of concrete action undertaken in response to oppression, discrimination, and/or conflict. As movements grow and coalitions form, however, it is necessary to reflect on the values they are promoting and how those translate to short-term goals and a long-term vision for the future. Tools within this category provide examples of how values, goals, and a future-oriented vision can be integrated into movement work. This allows for strategic coalition building, facilitates decision-making, and ensures there is a long-term vision to move forward in ways that allow movements build on their strengths and develop a shared understanding of the future they would like to see.
