It's that time of the year again, conference tournaments are just around the corner with several mid-major conferences beginning there tournaments just under a week from now such as the Ohio Valley Conference and Big South Conference. Selection Sunday will follow the conference tournaments on March 17th
THE OBVIOUS- UCONN HUSKIES
The obvious choice for a champion, the University of Connecticut Huskies. The UConn Huskies are essentially a shoe-in for the 1 seed in the East region according to Joe Lunardi's Bracketology . With the way I see the bracket shaking out I believe that UConn has a fairly easy path (as easy as a path in March Madness can be, because at the end of the day it's March Madness and anything can happen). This path is as follows, the Huskies start the tournament in the Round of 64 with a match up against the 16 seed EKU Colonels a team that has made some noise in the mid-major basketball scene with a 17-11 record and leading the ASUN conference, but they are no match for this UConn team. Next in the Round of 32 the Huskies will take on the Oklahoma Sooners the Sooners are the 8th seed in the tournament and rank 8th in a stacked BIG12 conference. The Sooners are not suited to take down a team as strong as the Huskies and UConn will advance to there first true test in the Sweet 16, the 4 seed Auburn Tigers, with a 21-6 record at 3rd in an incredibly talent filled SEC. The Auburn Tigers are an incredibly strong team but will fall short to the Huskies of UConn. Now for the Elite 8, there are a couple teams I believe the Huskies could face the first being the 2 Seed UNC Tarheels, If the Huskies face this UNC team, I believe the Tarheels stand no chance. They faced off earlier this season and the result was 87-76 UConn. This UNC team is also incredibly shaky, with losses to Syracuse, Clemson, and Georgia Tech. This is also the reason why I could see UConn facing a couple other teams. One of these teams is the University of South Flordia Bulls. USF is a strong team with multiple ranked wins and a 21-5 record at 1st in the American Conference but would ultimately fall short to UConnn. This places the 1 seed Huskies in the Final 4, representing the East. I'm not going to try to predict the rest of the tournament but in my opinion the Huskies are well equipped to take on any of the top seeds from other regions
THE NOT SO OBVIOUS- UK WILDCATS
I'll keep this one short and sweet, the Kentucky Wildcats are a young, star studded roster, with 2 players projected to go to the 1st round in the NBA Draft, you've heard there names Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham. On paper this Kentucky team is capable of almost anything, there one crutch is that how young they are, with little to no tournament experience. Not to mention Kentucky and coach John Calipari's recent mishaps in the tournament. But if Rob Dillingham and hometown hero Reed Sheppard are able to lead this team, I will not be surprised if we see the Wildcats make a deep run this tournament.
THE CINDERELLA- INDIANA ST SYCAMORES
The Indiana State Sycamores stand at 1st in the MVC Conference, and hold the 11th seed in the south with a 25-4 record. To put it simply this team is a fun cinderella team to follow, and do not be surprised if you hear the name Robbie Avila, the Rec Spec sporting phenom for the Sycamores.
ALL SEEDING INFORMATION IS ACCORDING TO JOE LUNARDI'S BRACKETOLOGY AS OF 2/28/2024:
