PAY LIKE A CAR - PARK LIKE A CAR
Hackney Council have announced plans to charge motorcycles to park, their proposals include;
Charging motorcycles and scooters the same as cars for residents and business parking permits
Residents permits up to £596 a year and business permits up to £1560, rising to £843 and £1800 by 2027
Residents of ‘car-free’ developments will now be banned from parking a motorcycle
£10 for all day commuter parking in solo motorcycle bays. Currently these are only found around Old Street so commuter parking is still banned in the rest of the borough
Charges will apply even for electric motorcycles and scooters.
Riders have been fighting these plans for over 3 years and Hackney Council have refused to take our concerns seriously. Because of the Council's intransigence many riders have decided if the Council want them to pay like a car, then they'll park like a car when they're in Hackney.
Motorcycles and scooters take up on average 8 times less parking space than a car, and don't contribute to congestion - they are part of the solution to many of the environmental and transport issues Hackney faces. The Council flatly refuses to recognise any of this so riders feel if they are being treated like a car, and asked to pay like a car, then they should park like a car.
If riders reaction to the Council has inconvenienced you then we apologise. We encourage you to contact Cllr Coban and/or your own local Councillors directly to tell them to drop their plans for motorcycle parking charges and recognise the impact this thoughtless policy is having on riders and all other Hackney residents and workers.
