We’ve created a petition on Change.org to demonstrate the strength of objection within the community. White Lane isn’t the only site being targeted for development in the S12 area. Sheffield’s local plan also includes Norton Aerodrome, which is earmarked for 270 homes, furthermore Scowerdens (136 homes), Manor Top Army Centre (150 homes), and Jaunty Avenue (75 homes) and Newstead (already under construction 218 homes) are listed on the Sheffield City Council (SCC) development map (which you can find here). In total, S12 could see over 1000 new homes, without any corresponding improvements to local infrastructure like schools, healthcare facilities, or road upgrades.
But the pressure doesn’t stop there. North East Derbyshire has proposed 90 homes in Ridgeway, and a developer is pushing for 1,200 homes at Plumbley (although SCC is rejecting that plan for now). In addition, Handsworth and Woodhouse in the south of Sheffield are included in the plan for over 3,000 new homes.
This level of overdevelopment is putting an unsustainable strain on Southern Sheffield, and we believe it’s critical to raise awareness and take action before our community is overwhelmed by further development. Thank you for supporting our efforts to protect S12 and the wider South Sheffield area, to sign the petition click the button below.
