As part of my PhD research, I co-developed a proposal for a joint applied research project by Arizona State University and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology with implementation partners in 4 countries: Nepal, Philippines, Uganda & Bolivia. The project was funded by the Global Consortium for Sustainability Outcomes (GCSO). The project aimed to understand and enhance design capabilities and engage communities for developing people-centered design approach to energy projects in remote and underserved communities, that deliver significantly increased levels of value. The team carried out co-design and evaluation in 4 communities in Nepal, 3 in Bolivia, 6 in Uganda and 3 in the Philippines.
The lessons from this project resulted in capacity building trainings for entrepreneurs, design strategies to meet local community development goals, and insights on strengthening community-based governance and management of local sustainability transitions.
