My research seeks to design pathways for transformative change in local communities vulnerable to shifts in socio-economic conditions and facing heightened risks from climate change. I triangulate insights on the linkages between energy systems and systems of poverty, and explore how multiple actors engage with producing and applying knowledge for action.
My work with citizen groups, entrepreneurs, policy and governance entities helps illustrate strategies, capacities, and knowledge practices for transformative changes in multiple aspects of society to pursue sustainable futures, including energy, water, food security and production, livelihoods, and local economies.
At the heart of this transformative change are capabilities and knowledge processes that empower communities to articulate visions, undertake actions in coordination with partners and engage institutional stakeholders for pursuing well-being and thriving futures. A critical element of research is to strengthen and create grassroots democratic governance capabilities by explicitly engaging with traditions, individual and social identities, power relationships.
