Focus

Identify subsystems in interaction and define scope

Once a relevant problem or phenomenon is selected, it is important to complete the following task:

Identify what aspect of the system you will focus on in your teaching as well as the different subsystems (e.g., chemical, physical, biological, environmental, social, political, economical) whose interactions will be analyzed and discussed as part of the lesson or module.

For example, this infographic explicitly represents the atmospheric system of focus and its components (e.g., greenhouse gases, energy dissipation) in interaction that will be analyzed during the proposed module on greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The analyses and discussions will focus on the properties of chemical substances in the atmosphere that absorb the infrared solar radiation reflected by Earth. The consequences of these interactions on our planet's temperature and life on Earth will also be considered.
