How Our Rescue Works

Every rescue is unique, and every bird deserves thoughtful, individualized care. Because we are a small, home-based sanctuary, we intentionally limit the number of birds we accept so we can provide the highest quality of care to every resident.

Intake Requests

If you need to surrender a bird, please contact us through our website or social media with as much information as possible, including:

• Species and breed

• Age (if known)

• Sex (if known)

• Reason for surrender

• Medical history or known health concerns

• Temperament

• Photos and videos of the bird

• Your general location

Providing complete information allows us to determine whether we're the right fit and whether we have the resources and space available.

Intake Evaluation

Every request is carefully reviewed before acceptance.

We consider:

• Current sanctuary capacity

• Medical needs

• Quarantine space availability

• Compatibility with our existing flock

• Long-term quality of life

• Available financial and volunteer resources

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee acceptance of every bird. If we are unable to help, we'll do our best to provide guidance or connect you with other resources whenever possible.

Quarantine & Health Assessment

Every new arrival completes a quarantine period before joining the flock.

During this time, we:

• Perform a full health assessment

• Monitor eating, drinking, and behavior

• Evaluate mobility and overall condition

• Treat injuries or illness as needed

• Develop an individualized care plan

This process helps protect both the new arrival and the birds already in our care.

Rehabilitation & Lifelong Care

Some birds only need time, proper nutrition, and a safe place to recover.

Others require lifelong medical care, mobility assistance, special housing, or ongoing rehabilitation. We are committed to providing whatever level of care each bird needs for as long as they need it. If we do not have the ability or capability to meet the required skills, we will work with other rescues to place the bird in suitable care for the needs required.

For birds with permanent disabilities or chronic medical conditions, our goal is simple: provide a life filled with comfort, dignity, enrichment, and love.

Rehoming

Whenever appropriate and in the bird's best interest, healthy birds may be placed into carefully screened adoptive homes.

Potential adopters must demonstrate that they can provide appropriate housing, nutrition, veterinary care, and lifelong commitment. Our priority will always be placing birds where they will be safe, respected, and cared for.

Some birds, however, become permanent sanctuary residents due to age, medical needs, disabilities, or behavioral considerations.

• Feed and bedding

• Veterinary care and medications

• Housing and enclosure improvements

• Daily care and enrichment

• Emergency rescue expenses
