Teaching methods
At SMU Grade School, I was assigned to teach Grade 2. However, due to issues with the observation schedule for Grade 2, I observed the teaching in Grade 1 instead. The teacher implemented a student-centered learning approach, encouraging students to actively express their thoughts. Additionally, the teacher set clear classroom rules to effectively manage the class. This approach fostered a positive learning environment where students felt engaged and supported.
learning materials and innovation
The teacher I observed used a TV to display PowerPoint slides for the lessons. They also used YouTube videos with songs to capture the students' attention, since the kids were still very young. This made the learning experience more engaging and fun for them.
Sources of Learning and Technology
The sources of learning included PowerPoint slides displayed on the TV and YouTube videos. Children's stories were also used for teaching, which helped make the lessons more relatable and fun. Additionally, the teacher provided hands-on materials that allowed students to engage with the content practically. All of these resources were designed to make learning interactive and enjoyable for the young students.
Authentic assessment
The teacher used worksheets as a form of authentic assessment to check students' understanding after the lesson. This helped determine whether the students had grasped the material. Additionally, the teacher asked questions to encourage students to share their thoughts and reflections on what they had learned. This approach provided valuable insights into the students' comprehension and engagement.
