Class Observation

was assigned to observe a Grade 2 class, but due to scheduling issues, I had to observe a Grade 1 class at St. Rose instead. Since Grade 1 students are still very young, the class was quite chaotic. Some children had short attention spans, so they required close supervision from the teacher. However, the teacher managed the students well by setting clear classroom rules, which helped keep most of the students under control. Unfortunately, due to a severe typhoon, the school had to suspend classes, preventing me from spending as much time with the students as I had hoped. This was really disappointing.

As for Grade 2 at St. Joseph, I was introduced to my mentor teacher, Ms. Gemmalyn Gallo Bibas. I observed the teaching online, as the government had announced that schools were to suspend in-person classes. This meant I had to quickly adjust to the new situation. The teacher organized online lessons that were easy to understand and concise. However, because the Grade 2 students were still young, the lessons were kept to 30-minute sessions with breaks in between. After each break, the teacher resumed the lesson. Before starting the content, the teacher made sure to go over the online classroom rules with the students to ensure they understood how the class would be conducted.
