This article discusses the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion and the pivotal role it played to increase awareness and promotion for indigenous people. Throughout this article the health status of aboriginal people is discusses to draw attention to the growing issues of high rates if chronic disease among this vulnerable population. Due to geographical location and cultural practices, access to healthcare remains low while birth rates, chronic disease, injury, and infectious disease remain high. Addressing the social determinants of health (SDH) within this article we are able to identify the which SDH mostly effect this vulnerable population. The main disparities linking SDH to poor health include workforce participation, low income, education, and substandard living conditions.

This graph provided by the Canadian government, demonstrates the inequities that remain between aboriginal populations and the general population. Using some of the Social Determinants of health to determine gaps in indigenous communities that remain.
This YouTube clip of a TEDx talk discusses the inequities of health aboriginal people face. Her great great grandfather performed the signing of Treaty 1 in 1871 that outline promises and benefits for both parties but has not been upheld. She discusses multiple examples of the treaty not being upheld and unfortunate events of her people.
