During the spring semester of 2024, I designed and supervised a project, A Gallery of Theorems, which ran in CU Boulder's Experimental Mathematics Lab during the spring of 2024 and fall of 2025.
Students who participated studied theorems and worked to represent the key concepts studied using artistic mediums of their choice. The exact choice of mathematical content and artistic mediums was guided by students' areas of interest and included painting, drawing, comics, dance, and music. The artistic products produced contribute towards dual goals of visualization and outreach, making abstract mathematical concepts accessible to be experienced through art, similarly to how one can experience an abstract idea in a museum by simply walking by and observing. As part of the project, many students presented their work at the Math for All Conference in Boulder, CO on April 6, 2024. If you are local to the Front Range of Colorado and interested in having any of this work displayed in your space, please contact me at sarahllpetersen@gmail.com with ``A Gallery of Theorems" in the subject line.
Student work: The following students worked five hours per week on their projects. We were able to offer partial financial support as payment for their work to many of the students. Alternatively, students could also choose to earn up to 2 hours of academic credit for their work. All work appearing on this page is original work of the students.
