This is the context for learning in Mrs. Honken's 4th grade homeroom. These are the same students that are in the video lesson found on the Video and Reflection page.
Reflection:
This class is a lot of fun to work with. Students do a great job on completing their work, staying focused and on task. There is a mix of cultures and backgrounds, which makes this group more unique and fun to see their own personalities. Each one brings their own unique flare to the classroom, providing their personalities and insights. I enjoy the conversations I have with each one of the students, learning their interests.
I have enjoyed teaching with these students too. They enjoy partcipating in the content that is needing to be covered. It requires a mix of learning environments to get the best results. This includes a mix of at the front of the room, sitting at their desk, working alone or working with others. Doing this keeps them engaged and ready to go, which makes the teaching fun for me as I like to move and change spaces as well.
A big struggle with this group is drama. There are students who gang up on one another, and no one is at fault for the things that occur in the classroom. I can tell it takes a toll on the teachers, and they would appreciate it if the students would stop. Rumors occur, and students want to see others get in trouble. Why they do this? I am really not sure. But there will need to be some maturing to occur in this group in order for them to get along easier.
This group is a great joy to work with, admist the struggles. I look forward to seeing where they go, what paths they will end up on, and where life takes them. I am grateful to be able to work in this 4th grade class, and I would come back and work with them again in a heartbeat.
This is the message to Mrs. Honken's 4th grade class. This was communicated to the parents through ClassDojo.
