Standard #9: Professional Learning and Ethical Practice
The teacher engages in ongoing professional learning and uses evidence to continually evaluate his/her practice, particularly the effects of his/her choices and actions on others (learners, families, other professionals, and the community), and adapts practice to meet the needs of each learner.
Standard #10: Leadership and Collaboration
The teacher seeks appropriate leadership roles and opportunities to take responsibility for student learning, to collaborate with learners, families, colleagues, other school professionals, and community members to ensure learner growth, and to advance the profession.
Standard #11 Teacher as Servant
The teacher personalizes the departmental “teacher as servant” motto, linking their past educational experiences and future call as educator to Christ’s embodiment of humble servant. (not InTASC: proprietary to our department)
Standard 9: This is my Professional Development plan, in which I focus on my strengths and weaknesses. I recognize that I connect well with others and am able to reach out to those around me. I am also looking to receive criticism and improve in all areas, because I will always need to learn to grow as a teacher.
Standard 10: Using the same artifact, I discuss how I want to collaborate with my coworkers. It is so important to work well with others, so I want to build relationships with those I am around, making the environment we create the best possible for student learning.
I have always had the dream of helping students and making them become better people. As I have learned at Northwestern College, we as educators need to incorporate Christ's love for others into how we approach teaching our students. Jesus said to have the children come to Him, acknowledging them and not separating them from the adults. I want to be like Christ when teaching my students, reminding them that they are loved and cared for.
