Challenge of Hades
Samhain approaches! A season of harvest, remembrance, and the ancient belief that the veil between the worlds of the living and the dead grows thin.
On this day, the gates of the Underworld shall stand open.
Warriors from across the Kingdom are called to descend into the realm of Hades and prove themselves before its immortal guardians. There, courage shall be measured not by a single victory, but by the glory earned through repeated trials against the greatest champions of the dead.
Pay the Boatman.
Cross the River Styx.
Challenge the Champions of Hades.
Earn your kleos!
Upon entering the tournament, every warrior shall be entrusted with two obols, the coins required to purchase passage across the River Styx. Each obol grants one crossing into the Underworld, where the challenger may seek glory against one of the Champions of Hades:
• Cerberus, the three-headed guardian of the Underworld – His Grace Sir Ellias
- Must be struck twice to gain kleos!
• Achilles, greatest of the Achaean heroes – Sir Skane
- Ignores first death blow but blows to his left leg will defeat him and gain you kleos!
• King Minos, Judge of the Dead. – His Excellency Sir Fergus
- Prove your worth, defeat him in a minute or gain his praise to earn kleos!
• Tisiphone, Fury of Vengeance and Retribution – Her Grace Sir Kiera
- Lose to her, bear her fury; face her alone at each crossing, until you gain kleos!
Yet no soul may presume to choose its own fate.
As each warrior offers an obol to Charon and steps aboard the ferry, any Champion of Hades may lay claim to that soul. Should this occur, the challenger must answer that Champion's challenge before seeking any other trial.
Every victory earns kleos, the everlasting glory by which heroes are remembered long after death has claimed them.
Charon waits for no mortal. The Boatman shall turn his hourglass, and as the final grains of sand fall, every warrior shall receive another obol, granting another passage across the Styx. No warrior may possess more than two obols at any time.
When the crossings have ended and the dead have rendered their judgment, the two warriors who have earned the greatest kleos shall stand before the Court of Hades. There they shall contest a
best two-of-three final to determine who shall be proclaimed Champion of Hades.
The victor shall be awarded the CLOAK OF HADES (created by The Lady Kassandra Formica!). A Prize worthy of a hero whose name shall be remembered beyond death itself.
The River Styx Awaits.
