The more I learn about this, the more I realize how important and far-reaching the subject of mindset and emotions are. Some aspect of this can be found in pretty much every problem. Since problems and solutions are opposite sides of the same coin; if this is part of every problem then it has to be part of every solution. Most people are not taught how to manage their emotions. This can be seen in all of the craziness in the world – from the shootings to the riots to the road rage to every other problem in the world. However, if you go to the successful people in any field, you will find some reference to this topic whether it be the Gottman’s on relationships, Tony Robbins on success, Dave Ramsey on finances, health, politics or anything else.
By teaching these skills, many of these experts have helped people avoid divorce, gain financial freedom, overcome chronic autoimmune diseases of all kinds, beat IBS, eliminate problems from fibromyalgia, cancers and mold; overcome infertility, insomnia, etc. This handout is a compilation of quotes and ideas from many sources organized as smoothly and concisely as I could. Each time I reference something, I could have listed many other sources. If something resonates with you or doesn’t make sense, then I suggest you go to one of these sources as they go deeper or explain it more thoroughly.
I really should have included all the stories from these different resources as it shows these principles in real life situations. It would allow you to see that you are not alone – that other people have gone through similar things as you; that some people have gone through worse things than you; or most importantly that people who have gone through terrible things like you have been able to heal, move on, and thrive.
You may be wondering why you should read all of this and not just skip to the treatment section. Knowledge increases power. When you understand some of the principles in how your body and how emotions work you will realize that:
1) you are not broken, damaged, or irreparable,
2) you are not alone,
3) these are common and natural reactions,
4) your body and mind are acting this way for a reason,
5) there is a way to change this,
6) there are things that can be done to keep this from happening in the future.
7) You are not born that way or that is not just the way you are. You have far more choice and control than you realize.
This understanding will also help you understand why some of these solutions and techniques work. It also allows you to figure out some solutions on your own.
