There are certain moments in an individual’s life where they discover what their passion or purpose is. I like to think of these pivotal moments as part of a person’s ‘definition’ of who they are. My two pivotal moments that encompass my ‘definition’ have a common denominator: occupational therapy. My first moment was when I had to have emergency back surgery after a severe sports-related injury. It was through that catastrophic injury that I discovered this rewarding and life-changing profession, which eventually led me to where I am now—a third-year OTD student. My second moment, however, was a little less dramatic. When I was a freshman at my undergraduate university, one of my advisors gave me some advice…“leave things better than you found them.” That’s it. That was the pivotal moment. My outlook on everything shifted at that moment and it opened up my eyes to the world around me. From there on out, I became consciously aware of actively trying to better those around me. It is for that reason that I decided to attend a Doctorate program—so that way I could really help further advance our profession and leave it better than I found it.
This section of my ePortfolio is full of information about myself, my research team, and acknowledgments to those that have gotten me this far in my professional career. While this section reflects where I have been and where I am at in this present moment, it gives a small glimpse into my future as a practitioner through my goals, aspirations, and my presented work.
While I get to where I'm going, in the meantime, you can be sure to find me where the ocean meets the pines with my pups and my fiancé by my side taking in all of the beauty that life has to offer.
