Background
The Salem Digital Equity plan aims to overcome historical, institutional, and structural barriers that make it hard for individuals and families to access and use the internet. The City of Salem, in partnership with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC), is actively creating a Digital Equity Plan that elevated the unique needs and assets of Salem community.
The plan will include insights from analyzing data on broadband service access, device availability, and digital literacy from quantitative data sources as well as from community input. The plan will look ahead to set a vision for bridging the digital divide, outlining future actionable steps and identifying opportunities for potential digital equity initiatives.
Digital Equity Framework
To achieve digital equity, all three components need to be in place: broadband connection, device access, and digital literacy.
