We vote, we pay taxes - and we can get our local government to provide good security for our neighborhood, our community, and everyone in our city. But we must make our voices heard by our local elected officials, primarily city but county as well.
The GANC local-government project gives neighbors suggestions for contacting their city and county officials on matters of neighborhood and civic security, by letters and emails with effective messaging.
We encourage neighbors to attend local community meetings so that our voices - our needs for concrete neighborhood and city security improvements - are heard and so that officials are accountable for meeting those needs. Neighbors can also email the GANC community on the outcomes of the meeting.
Perhaps you saw this survey that one of our GANC members sent in email:
OAKLAND SURVEY | the-mcconnell-group
In essence it says that the overwhelming majority of residents consider crime to be the number one problem in our city and want public officials to focus their energies on ameliorating the crime problem before any other issue is addressed.
Individual Action Plan:
Read the Survey
Draft an email that clearly, professionally, and politely expresses your opinion on the issue of crime and crime prevention. Include in your email a link to the survey.
Send your email to the public officials whose email addresses are listed here on this web site.

Madam Mayor-
I am familiar with the below listed citizen survey. I think it important that you and your staff review it as well.

Clearly, the overwhelming majority of Oakland residents are in favor of elected officials focusing on the issue of crime and crime prevention in our city. I stand with you and our police in your efforts to make our city safer for all citizens.
Thank you.
