Welcome to the official digital home of the Stroud & District Athletic Club (SADAC) history archive. As we accelerate toward our monumental 50th anniversary in 2029, we are embarking on a mission to preserve the grit, the community spirit, and the record-breaking moments that have defined our club since 1979.
This archive is a living, breathing gateway to our past. From vintage race results and handwritten logs to restored classic photography and the oral histories of our founding legends, we are bringing the SADAC story to life. As our team of volunteers discovers new treasures and digitizes club records, this site will continue to grow.
Join the Team History is a relay race, and we need your help to carry the baton. Do you have old club paperwork, race photos, or a story that needs to be told? We want to hear from you. The historical data, race logs, and foundational milestones preserved across these pages have been meticulously compiled from Stroud & District AC's official club vaults, physical archives, and verified public records. Please note that the items listed below are representative examples of our collection; our repository includes a vast array of additional documentation that continues to be processed.
Club Publications & Race Materials: Strategic data—including entry numbers, original route profiles, and elite runner fields—is drawn from a wide variety of official club documentation. Examples include the 1979/80 Season Review, various Stroud Half Marathon brochures (1984, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992), and numerous other race programmes and newsletters from our history.
Regional Collaboration & External Fixtures: To capture the full scope of our club’s impact, we have integrated results, newsletters, and fixture guides from collaborative events held across the Gloucestershire and Gwent regions. This includes joint-club reports, regional road-running documentation, and records of SADAC members participating in wider local athletic fixtures.
League & Championship Standings: Annual competitive performance metrics have been consolidated from our extensive series of XC League combined results tables, covering the 2008/2009 through 2015/2016 seasons.
Founder Records, Logbooks, & Personal Archives: Key operational context regarding the club’s 1979 launch, committee minutes, and internal administrative workflows stems from a wealth of foundational material, including the notebooks and blue logbooks of General Secretary Jackie Taylor, the extensive historical records meticulously maintained by Tony Brown, and contributions from other founding members.
Contemporary Media Coverage: Supplementary athletic context and regional race dates were cross-referenced against a broad range of historical local sports reporting, including multiple archived race day fixtures from The Citizen (1993) and other regional press sources.
Please note that this digital archive is a work-in-progress preservation project. While we strive for absolute accuracy, historical records—particularly those spanning back to our 1979 founding—may occasionally contain inconsistencies, errors, or omissions due to the age of the original documentation.
We view this archive as a collaborative puzzle. The record will be continually updated and expanded as further vintage brochures, missing results sheets, classic photographs, and collaborative materials from local events are unearthed and verified.
Get Involved & Correct the Record: If you possess club memorabilia, old race materials, or personal logs from regional fixtures that could help fill the blanks, or if you spot a discrepancy that needs correction, please Contact Us. We would love to have you on the team to help us ensure the SADAC story—and our history of collaboration within the Stroud athletic community—is permanently and accurately preserved in The Vault.
