Attendance Hour Acquisition
Members may accumulate attendance hours through active participation in any SABS events,
including but not limited to general body meetings, seminars, social events, and volunteer
opportunities. Students must obtain at least 5 hours per long semester, and a grand total of 20
hours minimum to be eligible for graduation cords. It is required that a minimum of 5 hours
be obtained through in-person attendance at events for students enrolled in in-person
programs. Students must earn their cords in
the year before they graduate to show active participation. Previously accrued hours can be
considered for further recognition as deemed fit by the SABS executive officers.
External hours may count towards the SABS graduation cord. External hours are defined as
non-SABS volunteer hours completed in the student’s community that are not sponsored by
another organization (ex: hours completed through the Medical Science Community Service
Organization will not count towards SABS attendance hours, but volunteer hours through
volunteer tutoring, community events, etc. may be counted). External hours will be approved
on a case-by-case basis. Students must provide documentation of external hours through the form linked below.
Members are responsible for recording and documenting their earned attendance hours through the
designated service hours function within their user profile on Engage. Total hours will be counted
from the hours submitted on Engage. It is mandatory for students to maintain a personal record
of their approved hours.
For external hours, students must both submit their hours on Engage and fill out a service hours
Google form to provide an event description, date of event, and proof of attendance in order for
external hours to count towards the total amount of hours.

To submit attendance hours, please log in to your Engage profile here.
You will use the Service Hours function in Engage to submit all of your attendance hours. Per Engage Support:
Click on your profile and select Service Hours. All of your pending, approved, and denied service hours will display.
Select the +Add Service Hours button at the top of the page, and select the organization from the drop-down menu you wish to associate service hours to. Complete the form with all the required information, and any optional fields you choose to add. Click Create to confirm your submission. These submissions will need to be approved by an organization officer or campus administrator."
You may only count approved hours toward your attendance hours total.

If you attended any events in person, please also make sure you come see any of the officers taking attendance. This ensures an honest process where we can double-check with our own record that you only submit hours for events you attended/participated in. You will only earn attendance hours for the time that you were physically present (either online or in-person) at any SABS or volunteering event.
You are required to obtain hours for the two long semesters BEFORE graduation in order to be eligible for a graduation cord. For example, if you're graduating in Spring 2027, you must have a minimum of 5 hours per long semester and a grand total of 20 hours spread across both semesters to be eligible.
