Our Mission & Purpose

Mission

The mission of SABS is to promote the individual and professional development of students in the College of Biomedical and Translational Sciences (CBTS), to encourage educational excellence, to enhance the social experience of CBTS students, and to represent students and their concerns/issues at UNT Health.

Purpose

Our purpose is to serve as the official UNT Health organization for the students in CBTS, representing their interests at UNT Health, and promoting their academic achievements and research excellence.

Executive Council

The executive council comprises the elected members of SABS, which are: the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, First-Year Traditional Core Representative, and the Representatives for the In-Person and Online Medical Science (MedSci) cohorts. 

This executive council is the representing and policy-making body of SABS. Its purpose includes:

1. Formulating and executing policy on matters relating to SABS.

2. Budgeting and disbursing funds derived from student activities and other revenues.

3. Coordinating student activities involving all students in the School of Biomedical Sciences.

4. Coordinating student participation in faculty or administrative activities where student participation has been requested.

5. Providing representation for SABS and the SBS student body before the faculty, administration, or any other entity within or outside of UNT Health.

The duties of the individual representatives can be found in the SABS Bylaws, Article V.

Core Representative Committee

This committee comprises representatives responsible for the overall activities of the SBS student body, regardless of discipline or program (except for the Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Representative). Its members include the following: Community Outreach, Honor Code, Peer-to-Peer Mentoring, Sustainability, and Travel Awards representatives. 

The duties of the individual representatives can be found in the SABS Bylaws, Article VI.

Interdisciplinary Student Committee

This committee comprises of members responsible for representing the interests of the students belonging to the three departments of CBTS. The three departments are as follows:

Microbiology, Immunology & Genetics (MIG)

Pharmacology & Neuroscience (P&N)

Physiology & Anatomy (PHAN)

Special Liaison Committee

This committee comprises members responsible for representing the interests of the students belonging to the undergraduate and specialized programs of CBTS. The programs are as follows:

Clinical Research Management (CRM)

Medical Science (MedSci): In-Person/Online

Medical Science Research Track (MSRT)

Undergraduate
