#decisions #stories #patience #resilience #wisdom #growthmindset… | Sabina Mammadova
"Bad #Decisions Make Good #Stories" – Ellis Vidler. I came across this quote on a T-shirt in a shop 👕 , and I loved it 😃 It made me think about how many times I’ve faced setbacks on the way to success. Every failure, every wrong turn, every "bad decision" has shaped my journey—and, honestly, they’ve made some of the best stories to tell! This is something I always remind my students: You are writing your own story with #patience. Mistakes are not failures; they are lessons. As long as you learn and grow from them, they help you build #resilience and #wisdom. So, embrace the journey. Keep moving forward. One day, your "bad decision" or failure might just turn into the best chapter of your story 📖✨ #GrowthMindset #PersonalGrowth
#tuckman #group #team #forming #storming #norming #performing #adjourning… | Sabina Mammadova
🚀 Understanding #Tuckman’s 5 Stages of #Group Development: Where Does Your Team Stand? This valuable framework is something I learned from the Harvard Graduate School of Education course, and I believe it can be applied to any #team! 🟡 #Forming – Getting to Know Each Other This is where everyone’s still figuring things out. Team members are polite, and unsure about their roles. You’re all trying to figure out the group's purpose, who does what, and how things should work. 🔹 People introduce themselves, set goals, and avoid conflicts. 🟡 #Storming – The Struggle for Power Here’s where things get a bit messy. Now that everyone knows each other, differences in working styles, opinions, and leadership start to show. It’s common for power struggles or disagreements to arise, but this phase is crucial for growth and understanding. 🔹 Conflicts arise, frustration builds, and there might be tension between team members. 🟡 #Norming – Finding a Rhythm At this stage, the team starts to click. Members begin to accept their roles, trust each other more, and start working together smoothly. There’s a sense of unity, and collaboration becomes easier. 🔹 Members resolve conflicts, communicate better, and feel more comfortable sharing ideas. 🟡 #Performing – Peak Productivity This is where the team is truly in sync. Everyone knows their role. Motivation is high, trust is solid, and things just get done. 🔹 The group works effectively, solves problems, and hits their goals. 🟡 #Adjourning – Wrapping Up As the project or team wraps up, there’s a sense of accomplishment—or sometimes sadness about parting ways. It’s important to reflect on what was achieved and the lessons learned. 🔹 The team says goodbye, shares feedback, and celebrates successes. Understanding these stages helps teams navigate challenges and work better together. It helped me understand where I currently stand and how to handle the situation more effectively. It truly works in real life. #Leadership #Teamwork #Growth #TuckmanStages #TeamDevelopment #Collaboration #LearningJourney #Education
#teacher #observations #secondary #experiences #schools #group #students… | Sabina Mammadova
#Teacher’s Lens ✴️ 1️⃣ ✳️ Group Work Challenges and Rewards: Helping Students Grow Beyond the Classroom I would like to share some of my #observations about lower #secondary students based on my #experiences in different #schools. Managing #group work can be challenging, as #students naturally prefer to work with their friends. Sometimes, we allow this, while at other times, we encourage them to #collaborate with classmates outside their usual circles. Conflicts may arise, and when they do, students often need our #guidance to resolve them 👩🏫 Despite these challenges, group work remains one of the most effective learning methods. Through this #process, students develop essential skills such as #conflict resolution, problem-solving, #collaboration, #research, #social interaction, self-management, and the ability to #support others. More importantly, they genuinely enjoy working in groups 🥳 I recall asking students after a Science Fair which #skills they had improved, and many initially responded, "None." 🤦♀️ However, during #reflection, when asked about their most #memorable moments which they improved some skills, nearly all of them mentioned the preparation and exhibition process for Science Fair. This highlights an important truth: students don’t always recognize their #growth immediately. However, over time, they understand the skills they have developed and the impact of our guidance. #Education is not a process measured in days, months, or even a single year. It takes time. But one day, when they apply these skills in real life, they will remember the moments when we helped them grow. They also learn from one another, and group work— especially #teamwork —is one of the most powerful ways to foster that growth 👯 #TeacherReflections #GroupWork #CollaborativeLearning #StudentGrowth #21stCenturySkills #EducationMatters #Learning #ClassroomManagement #TeamworkSkills #ProblemSolving #CriticalThinking #SelfManagement #ConflictResolution #Teacher #TeachersObservations #TeachersLens
#teacher #teacher #hiring #success #leader #enthusiasm #potential #skills… | Sabina Mammadova
#Teacher’s Lens ✴️ 2️⃣ ✳️ The Power of Belief in Unlocking Potential: Continuous Growth and Learning Not every student is fortunate enough to meet a #teacher who truly believes in their potential. The same is true in adulthood—especially in the #hiring process. Sometimes, #success depends on meeting a manager or #leader who recognizes your #enthusiasm and #potential, someone who helps you grow and refine your #skills day by day 👩🏫 I always say that #schools are not just places for #students to #learn; teachers are also constantly learning and enhancing their skills. If our learning stopped the moment we graduated from university, life would lose its excitement 📚 In today’s rapidly changing world, continuous #learning and self-improvement are more important than ever. There will be times when you hear that you’re not experienced enough or that you’re not the right fit for a position 🤷♀️ Obstacles and setbacks are inevitable. But the choice is yours—will you let negative feedback hold you back, or will you seek new #opportunities, build your skills, and expand your #network? 😉 I hope you cross paths with people who recognize your potential and offer you the chance to #grow. Because sometimes, all it takes is one person who believes in you to set you on a path to success 🌸 Until then, the best we can do is continue #upgrading our skills 🌱 #LifelongLearning #GrowthMindset #EducationMatters #TeacherReflections #UnlockPotential #CareerGrowth #LearningJourney #TeachersObservations #TeachersLens
#classroommanagement #buildingrelationships #positivelearning #education… | Sabina Mammadova
🟡 "Good classroom management is about building relationships." This is a quote I heard from one of my Heads of Department. In the heart of every effective classroom is trust and respect. When students feel seen, heard, and valued, they are more engaged, cooperative, and eager to learn. Building meaningful relationships not only fosters a positive learning environment but also enhances growth and development for both students and teachers. #ClassroomManagement #BuildingRelationships #PositiveLearning #Education #Teacher #Educator

✨ “Curriculum cannot be rigid. Keep the standards, change the approach to them.” I came across this idea during a course, and it deeply resonated with me. It perfectly captures how we should approach any curriculum—with clarity on outcomes, but flexibility in how we get there. #CurriculumDesign #EducationMatters #InnovativeTeaching #StudentCenteredLearning #FlexibleLearning #EducationLeadership #LearningStandards #TeachingApproach #EducatorMindset #CurriculumDevelopment #Education #Teacher #Educator

#AI-Generated Video for #Science Subject 🟡 🔬 🔭 I explored several AI platforms to determine which one is most suitable for generating videos from text, using only #free versions. Turning Text into #Avatar Videos: Exploring the Power of #AI-Generated Content 🌟 Part 1 I just generated two different AI videos from #text to #video! This is the first one, featuring an avatar explaining #cellstructure and #organelles 🔬 While it's primarily created by AI, I did edit a few parts after it was generated 🤓 It's completely #free, although there are daily, weekly, or monthly limits on free usage. Turning Text into Videos: Exploring the Power of #AI-Generated Content🌟 Part 2 In this AI-generated #video, I didn’t make any edits. It features background music and #animations, which are great advantages. However, a downside would be that the #organelles could have been chosen more precisely, and more organelles could have been included. But for a #free attempt, it's not bad at all! 🤔 #TextToVideo #AIVideo #AIgeneratedContent #AICreation #AvatarVideo #CellStructure #Organelles #AItools #FreeAI #AIVideoEditing #TechInnovation #DigitalCreation #ExploreAI #AIexploration #Science #Biology #STEM #AIinEducation #Education #Teacher #BiologyTeacher #Educator

Poll Results 📊 The question was: What helps you manage stress as a teacher? The poll votes by 71 people. Results are shown below: Exercise or physical activity 41% ✅ Meditation or mindfulness 13% Talking to colleagues 24% Spending time with family 23% It looks like when it comes to managing stress, teachers mostly turn to exercise or physical activity. #classroom #education #motivated #engaged #behavior #reinforcement… | Sabina Mammadova
How to Reinforce Good Behavior in the #Classroom 🫣 One of the challenges in #education today is keeping students #motivated and #engaged — especially when boredom can lead to disruptive #behavior 😬 I think that positive #reinforcement doesn’t always have to involve stickers or #rewards — it can be as simple as giving #students a sense of #ownership, #responsibility, or #recognition. How can we apply #privilege-based reinforcement effectively? 💡 ✅ Let the student sit in the #teacher’s chair during quiet #reading time ✅ Send a positive email to #parents to appreciate students' efforts (it will also help to involve parents in the education process) ✅ Allow the student to use #device (laptop, tablet) during recess or #break ✅ Assign the student as the teacher’s special #assistant for a task or a #lesson ✅ Offer consistent verbal #praise — or even just a smile, a nod, or a thumbs-up! These small privileges can go a long way in reinforcing good behavior and building a positive classroom #culture 👩🏫 🤔 What about your class? What #strategies have worked best for you when it comes to classroom #management and creating a #motivating, respectful space for students? #TeacherTips #PositiveReinforcement #ClassroomManagement #StudentMotivation #EducationMatters #MindfulTeaching #BehaviorStrategies #StudentSuccess #Education #Teacher #Educator
#skills #communication #thinking #social #research #students #activity… | Sabina Mammadova
How Do I Design Student-Centered Learning While Creating Activities? 🤓 When I design a task, I try to pay attention to which #skills can be improved with this task (#communication, critical or creative #thinking, #social, self-management, #research, information literacy, etc.). I try to give space to #students for learning. That is why, when I design an #activity or #assessment, I decide the type of #work (individual, pair, or group). If it is a #formative assessment, I let the students choose their work style. But if I observe that a student always chooses to work individually, I try to #encourage this student to join different #groups in terms of #socializing. Sometimes, they can even choose the #learning method (making a presentation, creating a podcast, creating a video, etc.). If it is a #topic that is given to students and they come up with suggestions, I consider and usually accept them. I try to build relationships with students and understand their #strengths and difficulties. This skill is also helpful when I design an activity for them. For example, if a student is good at drawing, I ask them to also draw and describe a #process, and they love drawing. 😊 These are the main points I try to pay attention to. 🖼️ The picture was AI-generated in Adobe Firefly by Kevin Pymm. #StudentCenteredLearning #SkillBasedEducation #DifferentiatedInstruction #FormativeAssessment #CollaborativeLearning #StudentVoiceAndChoice #CreativeTeaching #InquiryBasedLearning #PersonalizedLearning #BuildingStudentStrengths #FlexibleLearning #ATLskills #ReflectiveTeaching #EmpoweringStudents #Education #Teacher #Educator

🟡 AI-Generated Educational #Video 📽️ This is another attempt of mine to use #AI video #generator tools for #educational purposes. In this case, I wanted to apply it to the #Solar System topic in #Science 🌏 I'm genuinely excited about the result—it's one of my best so far! What amazes me is that these videos can be generated for #free, as long as you know how to #design an effective #prompt and choose the right #tools for your purpose. This particular video was generated using ChatGPT Plus, and I’m quite satisfied with the outcome. It has a #storytelling style, which I love—after all, everyone enjoys a good #story! 😊 Although there were options to edit the video, I decided to keep it exactly as generated, without any modifications. I'm still #learning and #exploring which tools can be most beneficial for #educators, and I remain curious about the many possibilities AI offers in #education. One challenge I’ve noticed is the overwhelming number of AI tools available—many are highly recommended but turn out to be less useful in practice. Interestingly, some lesser-known tools have proven to be more #practical and suitable for #educational settings. That’s why it’s important to #experiment with different tools and prompts to find what works best. I hope you enjoyed this AI-generated video as much as I did! 😃 #AIinEducation #EdTech #AIEducation #TeachWithAI #AIforLearning #FutureOfEducation #EdTechTools #DigitalLearning #SolarSystem #ScienceEducation #SpaceLearning #STEMeducation #ScienceIsFun #LearnWithAI #AIVideo #AIVideoGenerator #ContentCreation #StorytellingInEducation #FreeAItools #EdTechInnovation

#sweden #ban #schools #phones #primary #secondary #technology #classrooms… | Sabina Mammadova
Initially, I came across reports suggesting that #Sweden 🇸🇪 intends to #ban devices in #schools. Upon further research, I discovered that while Sweden is planning to implement a ban on mobile #phones in #primary and lower #secondary schools starting July #2026, it's not a complete ban on all #technology in #classrooms. 🔍 Key Insights: 🔷 Mobile Phone #Policy: Students will be required to hand in their mobile phones at the start of the school day and retrieve them at the end. 80% of Swedish schools already have some form of mobile phone restriction in place. Exceptions will be made for specific situations, such as medical needs or educational purposes, at the discretion of school authorities. 🟡 #Digital Tools in Education: Sweden is not eliminating technology from classrooms entirely. Instead, the focus is on reducing excessive screen time, especially for younger students, and emphasizing traditional learning methods like printed books and handwriting practice. 🔷 #Educational Outcomes: This shift is in response to concerns about declining basic skills among students, potentially linked to overexposure to digital devices. For instance, the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) highlighted a decline in Swedish children's reading levels between 2016 and 2021. 🟡 #Investment in Traditional Resources: The Swedish government has announced plans to invest 685 million kronor ($68 million USD) this year and another 500 million kronor ($50 million USD) in both 2024 and 2025 to reintroduce printed textbooks into schools. This approach underscores the importance of a #balanced integration of technology in education, ensuring that digital tools enhance rather than hinder learning. 🔍 It raises important questions for all of us in education: 🔸 How can educational systems worldwide find the right balance between traditional teaching methods and modern technology? 🔸 What measures can be taken to ensure that technology serves as a tool to enhance learning without causing distractions? 🔸 Should other countries consider similar policies? #AI-Generated #Simulation + #Quiz + Drag-and-Drop #Activity (Created in Under 10 Minutes) 🟡 I’ve been experimenting with improving #prompts for #AI tools to #create #interactive #learning resources. This time, I tested whether a simulation, quiz, and drag-and-drop activity could be generated quickly and accurately—and they were all created in less than 5 minutes! 😶 I tested the quiz and drag-and-drop tasks using both correct ✔️ and incorrect ❌ responses. They worked well and were able to identify mistakes and correct answers effectively. The simulation also functioned properly, especially after resetting. ✅ Key Advantages: - Fully #free to use - Fast #generation time - No spelling errors (unlike some other AI #tools) - Quiz and drag-and-drop activities are interactive and responsive ⚠️ Limitations: - Currently, there’s no option to download the simulation or activities - Some scientific content is not described accurately or in sufficient detail - The simulation requires resetting to function properly Despite its limitations, this is a promising tool for creating quick, interactive #science learning content. "There is no system in the world, or any #school in the country, that's better than its #teachers. Teachers are the lifeblood of the #success of schools. But teaching is a #creative profession. Teaching properly conceived is not a #delivery system 👩🏫 You know, you're not there just to pass on received #information. Great teachers do that. But what great teachers also do is #mentor, #stimulate, #provoke, #engage 💡 You see, in the end, #education is about #learning 🧠 If there's no learning going on, there's no education going on. And people can spend an awful lot of time discussing education without ever #discussing learning. The whole point of education is to get people to #learn 🌿 A friend of mine, an old friend, actually very old, is dead 😶🌫️ That's as old as he gets, I'm afraid. A wonderful guy he was, a wonderful philosopher, he used to talk about the difference between the #task and #achievement senses of verbs. You know, you can be engaged in the activity of something, but not really be achieving it. It's like dieting. It's a very good example 😃 There he is, he's dieting. Is he losing any weight? Not really. #Teaching is a word like that. You can say, there's Deborah, she's in room 34, she's teaching. But if nobody's learning anything, she may be engaged in the task of teaching, but not actually #fulfilling it. The role of a teacher is to #facilitate learning. That's it 👩🎓 " Ken Robinson

"Luck is unbelievably important. | Sabina Mammadova
"Luck is unbelievably important. You know, when I made the #discovery for which I won the #Nobel Prize, we were trying to do something totally different. It didn't work. It was a #failure. And then we looked to see why it failed and nature was trying to tell us something and we discovered what it was. And that brings to another point, is that failure is really important. You know, #experiments, they don't have to succeed. Right? And if they don't succeed, and you do them right. #Nature's trying to tell you here is a discovery to make. So I love #failure. I love it when #students come to me and say, Hey, I did what you told me to do. It didn't work. Oh, maybe there's a discovery there. This is excitement. But the other thing about #creativity is that the #education systems in many countries seem designed to knock the creativity out of children. All young #children are #creative. Yeah. And they go to #school and it's knocked out of them. So that is not a good thing. And then the other thing for me personally is I've always felt, I don't like people telling me what to do. If someone says, oh, you should do this. I wanna do the opposite, because I think they thought of it. It can't be that interesting. I want to #learn about it. And so make sure that whatever you are doing as a student, don't let someone tell you, oh, don't do that. Do this. If you think that doing this is wrong, do what you think is right. I just came across this powerful analogy, and it caught my attention. | Sabina Mammadova
I just came across this powerful analogy, and it caught my attention. Just a week ago, I shared in a post about supporting student learning that "I felt like a parent watching a child start riding a bicycle—you support at first and stay close just in case they fall, but then you let them ride independently. My role was like that." Seeing Winnicott’s concept from 1960 reminded me that even after 65 years, the core principles of human development remain deeply relevant. Whether it’s a toddler learning to walk, a student growing into independence, or a teacher developing their practice, finding the right balance of #confirmation, #contradiction, and #continuity is essential. #Growth at any stage—whether in learning or teaching—requires #support, #challenge, and consistent #opportunities to reflect and improve 📚 #EducationalLeadership #StudentSupport #InstructionalCoaching #GrowthMindset #Mentorship #Teaching #Education #Teacher

These quizzes not only reveal the correct answers but also offer detailed #explanations, which can reinforce #student learning. For example, I tested the #Chemical Changes #Virtual Lab. It includes options like “Normal Setup” and “Gas Collection,” and provides tools such as a thermometer for measuring temperature and indicators like phenol red for checking pH levels 🧪 It also displays the chemical #reaction, including the balanced chemical equation. You can choose from different #solutes and #solvents to run a variety of experiments. I always aim to incorporate diverse #teaching strategies because every student learns differently. Exploring new tools helps me better understand my students' #learning preferences and provides me with flexible, alternative resources and backup plans 👩🏫 Although I had used Gizmos in the past, I hadn’t realized the full extent of its features until now. Introducing Canva Code: A Free AI Code Generator for Interactive Projects | Sabina Mammadova posted on the topic | LinkedIn
#Generating Code from a Prompt with Canva Code 🤔 Creating #simulations and #games has never been this easy 🥳🎉 I’d like to introduce Canva Code (#AI Code Generator) — a #tool that generates code directly from your #prompt. You can create a prompt using ChatGPT for support, or simply type a short instruction yourself. For the best results, however, I recommend providing a detailed prompt. Steps (as in the video) 1. First, I demonstrated the available #templates and how you can add prompts inside them. 2. Choose a template (optional) – You can #select a template that fits your needs, or skip this step if you prefer to start from scratch. 3. Add your #topic and content – Enter the subject or content you want to work on. 4. Generate #code automatically – The system then takes your input and creates the necessary code. 5. See the final #output – That code automatically turns into a simulation (or whatever format you requested), giving you the final version. Over the past few months, I’ve experimented with Canva Code to build a wide range of projects, including: - Simulations - #Quizzes - #Animations - #Websites - #Diagrams and #timelines - Interactive #flashcard games - Interactive pricing #calculators - Simple countdown #timers - #Digital birthday cards - Vocabulary matching and #memory games - Interactive restaurant menus - #3D games (e.g., exploring space) - Color accessibility #simulators …and much more. 🟡 Advantages - Easy to use: just type a #prompt. - Supports creative and #interactive projects. - Great for rapid #prototyping. - Even Canva Code #AI can generate a prompt if you choose the proper #template. 🔴 Limitations - Sometimes #interactive elements (like buttons in #simulations) don’t function properly. - Solution: regenerate the #code and specifically request working buttons. - Currently, it’s not possible to download projects directly. - Workaround: record your project as a #video for demonstrations. You can either generate and use this interactive simulation in class, or let your students create their own versions. The possibilities are endless if you’re willing to explore. I always try to #share tools that I find genuinely useful. Of course, every #EdTech tool has its #benefits and #limitations. What I like about this one is that it’s completely #free, user-friendly, and continuously improving — each time I use it, I notice new developments. In the video, I generated a prompt for a #vocabulary matching #game on the topic of #cell structure and #organelles for Grade 6. That’s how I created this example. #Canva #AICode #CodeGeneration #DigitalTools #InteractiveLearning #EdTech #CanvaCode #AIinEducation #STEMEducation #CodingMadeEasy #AIInnovation #ClassroomTechnology #GamifiedLearning #FutureOfLearning #TechInTeaching #EdTech #EducationalTechnologies #Teacher #Education #Educator #ScienceTeacher #BiologyTeacher
How Quizlet enhances EAL learning with gamification | Sabina Mammadova posted on the topic | LinkedIn
If you like #gamification or game-based learning, you may want to use Quizlet 🤠 It can be especially helpful for #EAL (English as an Additional Language) #students. My favorite features in #Quizlet are “#Categories” 👾 and “#Blocks” 🎮 For example, let’s say you created or found pre-made #flashcards, but you want to organize group work. You can use the “Categories” feature. It works very similarly to #JeopardyLabs or #Factile digital tools. You divide students into #groups (teams), and they select a #category and point value. After responding within the given time, you reveal the answer. If it is correct, you simply click the “Correct” button, and that group earns the point. Scores are calculated automatically. Another feature is “#Blocks” 🧱, which students can play #individually or in #pairs. I have already observed how much students enjoy learning through Blocks, and it’s a perfect way to apply #game-based learning and gamification in class. It’s also a very #engaging way to #practice with flashcards. I believe this approach helps #EAL students too, as they won’t get bored while learning new key terms and #definitions. The only disadvantage is that ads appear before starting a game or practicing with flashcards in the #free version of the tool 😬 It’s worth a try 🤔 #Gamification #GameBasedLearning #Quizlet #Science #CambridgeCurriculum #BiologyTeacher #ScienceTeacher #Education #Educator #InquiryBasedLearning #EdTech #EducationalTechnologies #DigitalLearningTools

Shane Lopez on the 3 factors of hope | Sabina Mammadova posted on the topic | LinkedIn
Shane Lopez, one of the world’s leading experts on #hope, describes hope as encompassing three factors. First, when people have hope, they have a preferred future, a goal that describes “where [they] want to go, what [they] want to accomplish, who [they] want to be. Second, people who have hope have “agency,” a belief that they “can make things happen” and that their actions will enable them to reach their goal. Finally, hope requires pathways, “plans that carry [people] forward”. How Grade 6 students use AI in their studies and how it influences their learning | Sabina Mammadova posted on the topic | LinkedIn
💻 Recently, I had a conversation with my Grade 6 students about how often they use #AI. I noticed something quite interesting. Most of them responded that they use it only a few hours per week. This surprised me, as I was expecting a higher frequency 😅 The majority explained that since their #parents often help them with #studying and answer their questions, they don’t feel the need to rely on AI as much. Another #observation I made is that this generation seems to be using AI more responsibly. Instead of simply copying and pasting answers from prompts, many of them are paraphrasing and reworking the information. This gives me hope that our collective understanding of how to use AI effectively is improving. It was also fascinating to see how parent – child #communication influences the way students engage with AI ✨ 📸 The photo was generated with Adobe Firefly. A goal provides hope if it can be reached. • Are there clear #strategies that can be used to achieve the goal? 🟡 Student-Focused • Does the goal provide clear #feedback on whether the changes are making a difference for students? • What will be different for students if the goal is met? 📖 From “The Reflection Guide to The Impact Cycle” by Jim Knight, Jennifer Ryschon Knight, and Clinton Carlson Thank you for sharing your book, Kalpana 😊 #PEERSGoals #InstructionalCoaching #TeacherDevelopment #StudentSuccess #ImpactCycle #Education #ClassroomStrategies #Teacher #OWIS #OneWorldInternationalSchool #Singapore
Teacher autonomy linked to job satisfaction and retention, research shows. | Sabina Mammadova posted on the topic | LinkedIn
“Research finds that #teacher autonomy is positively associated with teachers’ job #satisfaction and teacher #retention (Guarino, Santibañez, and Daley, 2006; Ingersoll and May, 2012). Teachers who perceive that they have less #autonomy are more likely to leave their positions, either by moving from one #school to another or leaving the profession altogether (Berry, Smylie, and Fuller, 2008; Boyd, Lankford, Loeh, and Wyckoff, 2008; Ingersoll, 2006; Ingersoll and May 2012). (p.2) Yet despite the important role of #choice, #research suggests that autonomy is decreasing for almost all teachers (Malkus & Sparks, 2012).” From “The Definitive Guide to Instructional Coaching: Seven Factors For Success” by Jim Knight #TeacherAutonomy #InstructionalCoaching #TeacherVoice #TeacherChoice #EducationResearch #Teaching #ProfessionalGrowth #Education
#successful #productive #voice #work #teachers #research #student #classrooms #schools #survey #decision #learn #valued #school #teacher #student #voice #engaged #instructionalcoaching #teachervoice… | Sabina Mammadova
“Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman (1999) surveyed more than a million employees and interviewed more than 80,000 managers to create a short list of factors that ensure an engaged, #successful, happy, and #productive staff. One of those factors was #voice. Successful employees, they found, answer yes to the question "At #work, do you feel like your opinions count?" Gallup researcher Shane Lopez explored the idea of voice further. He surveyed doctors, nurses, truck drivers, restaurant employees, miners, teachers, and other workers to find out whether they felt their voice mattered at work. The day before Gallup released his research, Shane and I happened to meet at a little restaurant in Lawrence, where we both lived. When I asked him about his findings, he leaned across the table and said, "You won't believe who felt that their voice counted the least. #Teachers." As Shane and Preety Sidhu write in their paper about their #research on voice, "Despite having higher engagement than the national average, teachers are the least likely of all occupations to say 'at work my opinions seem to count" (Lopez & Sidhu, 2013, para. 7). And teachers are not alone in feeling like they don't have a voice in school. As Quaglia and Corso (2014) have noted, #student voice is also "not yet a reality in most #classrooms and #schools." Quaglia and Corso partnered with Pearson Education to conduct a national #survey of over 56,000 students in grades 6 through 12. The results showed that only 46 percent of students felt they had "a voice in #decision making at their school" and only 52 percent believed "that teachers are willing to #learn from students." A mere 45 percent of students considered themselves "#valued members of their #school community... even though 94 [percent believed they could] succeed and 67 [percent saw] themselves as leaders" (p. 2). When I asked Russ Quaglia if there was a relationship between #teacher voice and #student voice, he was unequivocal: "Absolutely. When teachers dont have a #voice, students don't have a voice, but when teachers do have a voice students do, too-and when they do, they are 5️⃣ times more likely to feel #engaged in school." You can experience #Tuckman’s Team Development Stages in real life. As a #teacher, you go through these stages with every new school year. In other professions, this process may take much longer. There are 5 main stages that we all pass through: 1. Forming - With students: The air is full of excitement and nervous energy. Everyone is on their best behavior, figuring out the new dynamic. - With colleagues: A period of polite curiosity as new teams and committees form. ✅ Strategies: Build trust, establish routines, clarify goals, and create a safe and welcoming atmosphere. 2. Storming - With students: Challenging moments — testing boundaries, resistance, or conflicts. - With colleagues: Differences of opinion, teaching styles, priorities emerge, role confusion, or frustration. ✅ Strategies: Stay consistent, encourage open communication, model respect, and guide problem-solving. 3. Norming - With students: Relief as routines stick, collaboration grows, and learning flows more smoothly. - With colleagues: Trust deepens, stronger collaboration, and mutual respect. ✅ Strategies: Celebrate small wins, reinforce positive behaviors, and share responsibilities. 4. Performing - With students: Energized and proud — the class feels like a true learning community. - With colleagues: Confident, productive teamwork focused on achieving shared goals. ✅ Strategies: Empower others, facilitate rather than control, and encourage innovation. 5. Adjourning - With students: A bittersweet mix of pride and sadness as the year ends. - With colleagues: Reflection at the close of a project, committee, or school year. ✅ Strategies: Celebrate milestones, reflect on growth, acknowledge contributions, and create lasting memories. 📊 The graph image is taken from the Coaching, Team Coaching, Transition Coaching website: "How to Guide Your Team from Forming to Performing," July 31, 2024. 🔗 The link: https://lnkd.in/gjbnBxv5 #Teachers #Education #ClassroomManagement #TeamDevelopment #TuckmanModel #TeachingJourney #StudentEngagement #TeacherGrowth #InstructionalStrategies #LearningCommunity #EdLeadership #TeachingReflection #ProfessionalGrowth #21stCenturySkills #Educators #TeachingLife #Collaboration #LearningJourney #ProfessionalDevelopment #SchoolCommunity

"People who thought they were doing more exercise were actually healthier than those who thought they were doing less. Even when the amount of exercise they were doing was the same." (Zahrt & Crum, 2017) I came across this statement from the #research in one of the courses, and I believe it highlights how your perspective toward circumstances can sometimes matter more than what you actually do. A positive outlook can bring meaningful changes to your life and even to the lives of others. That’s why I sometimes try to reframe negative thoughts, even though it’s not always easy and takes practice. We’re not Pollyannas; we all have a realistic side. Still, our perspective shapes how we interpret #challenges and #determine what truly matters in life. People and things hold as much importance as we choose to give them. #PositiveThinking #GrowthMindset #SelfAwareness #MentalHealth #LifelongLearning #PersonalGrowth

At EDUtech Asia, one #application that truly stood out for me was Class Saathi by TagHive — an innovative ed-tech solution powered by Samsung Electronics and built by TagHive. What makes this platform different from conventional learning apps is how it blends real-time #classroom engagement, #AI-driven personalization, and accessible #technology in one cohesive system. What is #Class Saathi? 🤔 Class Saathi is a global AI-powered learning and assessment platform designed for K-10 classrooms. It supports #teachers, #students, #parents, and school #leaders with #interactive tools that foster participation, understanding, and continuous #feedback — even without #internet connectivity. What Makes It Different? 🟡 #AI-Driven Personalization: The app uses AI to tailor #learning paths, recommend questions, generate #quizzes, and provide instant doubt-solving #support for students. Teachers can also use AI-generated #lesson plans and formative #assessments to adapt instruction for every #learner. 🟡 #Bluetooth Clicker System: One of its most unique features is the Bluetooth-based #clicker system — the world’s first — which lets every student answer questions live during class without needing Wi-Fi or expensive devices. This drives engagement from every learner, not just the ones with laptops or tablets. 🟡 #Offline-First Design: Because the platform works offline, #schools in low-connectivity or #resource-limited settings can still benefit from real-time participation and data insights — breaking down a major accessibility barrier in ed-tech. 🟡 #Actionable Insights for Teachers & Leaders: Teachers and school #administrators get real-time analytics and dashboards to track understanding by student, topic, or #class, enabling more informed and timely pedagogical decisions. 🟡 Multi-Stakeholder Support: Beyond students and teachers, Class Saathi gives parents progress notifications and principals a big-picture view of performance trends across the school. 👩🏻🏫 Why It Matters By combining #engagement, #personalization, and #accessibility, Class Saathi isn’t just #digitizing classrooms — it’s reshaping how learning and assessment happen in real time. This makes it particularly relevant for educators striving to make #data-informed instruction a practical reality in diverse school environments. Later School Start Times Boost Teen Health & Performance | Sabina Mammadova posted on the topic | LinkedIn
🟡 Is 8:30 a.m. Still Too Early to Start #School? A 10:00 a.m. School Start Time Improves #Health and #Performance of #Students Aged 13–16 — Frontiers in Human #Neuroscience ⏱️ 💡 Later School Start Times Boost #Teen Health & Performance Recently, I came across an insightful study published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience by Paul Kelley and colleagues. They explored what happens when a #UK secondary school shifted its start time from 8:50 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for two school years. Here’s what they did: - Observational study over 4 years (before-after-before design) - Students aged 13–16 were the target group - Measured illness absences and #academic performance Key findings: ✅ Illness-related absences dropped by over 50% ✅ Academic performance improved, with about 12% more students making good #progress ✅ Benefits disappeared when the school reverted to the earlier start Why it matters: #Teenagers naturally fall asleep and wake up later. Early school starts can cut sleep short, impacting health, focus, and learning. This research shows that later start times can significantly improve both #wellbeing and academic #outcomes. 📌 Reference: Kelley, P. et al. (2017). Is 8:30 a.m. Still Too Early to Start School? Teacher Emotional Support Boosts Student Learning Engagement | Sabina Mammadova posted on the topic | LinkedIn
📊 #Research Insight: Emotional Support From #Teachers Boosts #Learning Recent education research puts #data behind something teachers have always known. The paper “The impact of teacher #emotional support on learning engagement among college #students mediated by academic self-efficacy and academic resilience” was published in Scientific Reports (Nature Portfolio, 2025) and based on a #survey of 414 #college students. 📈 What the data shows: ✔ Teacher emotional support has a statistically significant positive effect on learning #engagement ✔ It has a strong positive relationship with students’ #academic self-efficacy (β = 0.367) ✔ It also positively predicts academic #resilience (β = 0.305) Together, academic self-efficacy and resilience partly explain why emotionally supportive teaching leads to higher student engagement. 📌 In simple terms: When students feel seen, supported, and understood by their teachers, they: ➡ #participate more ➡ #persist through challenges ➡ #engage more deeply with learning This reminds us that emotional support is not “extra” or “soft”. 🔗 #Article: Scientific Reports https://lnkd.in/gwwFm9TA #EducationResearch #Education #TeacherSupport #Teacher #BiologyTeacher #ScienceTeacher #InstructionalCoach #EdTechSpecialist #StudentEngagement #EmotionalSupport #AcademicSuccess #AcademicResilience #EducationInsights #StudentSuccess #LearningEngagement #EducationalLeadership

Boosting Teaching Impact with Data-Driven Reflection | Sabina Mammadova posted on the topic | LinkedIn
According to "#Data Rules: Elevating #Teaching with Objective Reflection" by Jim Knight and Michael Faggella-Luby, impactful teaching can be observed and reflected on through these key components: 1️⃣ Student #engagement (time on task, experience sampling, exit tickets, surveys) 2️⃣ #Instructional vs. non-instructional time 3️⃣ Engagement Time #Index (a global measure combining time on task and instructional time) 4️⃣ #Teacher vs. student talk 5️⃣ Ratio of #interactions (descriptive, reinforcing, and corrective comments) 6️⃣ Correcting #students (consistency and approach) 7️⃣ Student #behavior (disruptions, respectful interactions, classroom climate) 8️⃣ #Questioning practices (type, kind, and cognitive level) 9️⃣ Student #responses (opportunities, variety, and corrections) 🔟 Teacher #clarity 1️⃣1️⃣ Formative #assessment 💭 What would you add to this list based on your own classroom experience? In my previous posts, I truly appreciated how other educators shared their practices and insights. We learn so much from one another and sometimes, a small idea you share can make a big difference for someone else. ✨ Looking forward to learning from you again. #ImpactfulTeaching #TeacherReflection #ProfessionalLearning #Education #EdTech #InstructionalCoaching #ScienceTeacher #BiologyTeacher #EdTechSpecialist #InstructionalCoach #Teachers #Teaching #Learning #FormativeAssessment #StudentEngagement #ClassroomPractice #TeachingStrategies #EducatorCommunity #ReflectiveTeaching

Kahoot! New Updates 💡 🤔 I recently tried some of the new Kahoot! modes and wanted to share my experience. These modes offer unique ways to engage learners and support #learning. Here’s a quick comparison: 🟡 Classic Kahoot! - Focuses on speed and accuracy - Energizes the classroom with friendly competition - Perfect for quick knowledge checks and recall. 🟣 #Confidence Mode - Students earn extra points for #confident answers but lose points if they are unsure - Encourages #reflection and self-assessment - Supports Social and Emotional Learning (#SEL) by helping #students build confidence and think #critically about their certainty. 🟡 The Big Game - A high-energy, sports-themed mode with music and visuals - Can be played solo or in teams - Promotes engagement, collaboration, and a gamified celebration of learning In short: 🟡 Classic = energy & fast-paced recall 🟣 Confidence Mode = reflection & confidence-building 🟡 The Big Game = collaboration & shared learning Choosing the right mode depends on your learning objective, #classroom context, and student needs. #Kahoot #EdTech #EdTechSpecialist #InstructionalCoach #Teacher #ScienceTeacher #BiologyTeacher #Education #Singapore #Gamification #StudentEngagement #SEL #ConfidenceMode #BigGame #ActiveLearning

Professional development has evolved. Each PD format brings something different: • Instructional coaching supports teachers through ongoing feedback, reflection, and classroom based growth • Micro-credentials recognize targeted skills and encourage personalized, self-directed learning • Workshops can spark new ideas and shared understanding, especially when well-designed • PLCs create space for collaboration, collective problem-solving, and shared accountability The real question isn’t which one exists in schools, but which one actually changes practice over time. I’m curious to learn from your experience. Which PD format works best for you? 🤔 📌 Note: Other users can not see who voted for which option on LinkedIn. #Student Voice, Choice, and #Collaboration in Action 🌐 🏫 Each week, one class in our school organizes the assembly. This week, my Grade 6 tutor #class took the lead and organized an assembly for the lower #secondary classes. To begin, I invited #students to suggest possible topics and activities. They then #voted on the topic they wanted to present and voted again on the activities to include 📈 After that, I created a planning table where students could choose how they wanted to participate and contribute. I used a shared Google document where students collaborated and worked on their assigned tasks over several weeks. The chosen topic: How We Can Get Better Sleep The assembly included: 🟡 Skit 🔵 Q&A on lucid dreaming, sleepwalking, talking in sleep, and sleeping positions 🟡 Research findings 🔵 Quiz 🟡 Interviews with parents 🔵 Posters on healthy sleep habits 🟡 Debate We also involved #parents in the process. Students interviewed their parents, which became a meaningful way to connect home and #school learning. My students also requested to wear pyjamas, and this later expanded to all lower secondary classes. Thanks to the pastoral care team and school management for approving and supporting the students’ ideas 💡 During the #assembly, students were sent to different classes to support the activities. Afterward, students from other classes approached me with positive feedback, and my tutor class shared how proud they felt when their friends enjoyed the assembly 😊 It was truly rewarding to see their excitement, sense of #responsibility, and #collaboration throughout the process. I’m grateful to my colleague and co-tutor for her support in organizing the assembly. While managing time was challenging, seeing students engaged, learning, and happy made it completely worthwhile 👩🏫 😉 Note: Image generated using AI to demonstrate the context. #OWIS #Singapore #Teacher #ScienceTeacher #BiologyTeacher #EdTechSpecialist #InstructionalCoach #Education

I’ve compiled a list of simulation rich websites that I regularly use in my teaching. Around 15 of them I use actively, while the others I explore occasionally, depending on the #topic and #learning objectives. The choice of platform always depends on the #concept I want students to explore and the type of simulation that best supports understanding. I’ve also indicated which subjects each platform is best suited for. I began exploring simulations when I was unable to conduct laboratory experiments due to limitations in the lab facilities at the schools where I worked. I found these tools incredibly useful and began designing activities around them to support student learning. If you know any other effective simulation tools, please feel free to share, I’m always happy to explore new resources. 1. 🤔 How do you identify #AI-generated #student work? The key point, you usually can’t rely on a single sign. The best approach is to combine multiple indicators with your knowledge of the student. In my experience, I pay attention to the following points: 1. Writing #style or tone 2. #Vocabulary sophistication (compared with the student’s previous work) 3. A student who usually writes simply suddenly submits highly polished #academic writing 4. Repetitive sentence #starters 5. Lack of #personal voice 6. Generalizations instead of specific #examples 7. Surface level #analysis 8. Avoidance of concrete #classroom references 9. #Generic examples 10. Difficulty responding to very specific prompts tied to the #lesson 11. Incorrect #references 12. #Citations that don’t exist 13. #Wordiness without real depth 14. Inconsistent #formatting within the same work (e.g., mixed citation styles) 15. The student cannot clearly explain their own #writing 16. Unusual or #excessive use of dashes (—) compared with the student’s normal writing style 17. Lack of process #evidence No single sign proves #AI use, but patterns across several of these indicators often signal that a closer look and a supportive conversation may be needed. What would you add to this #list? I’d love to hear about your #experience. #perma #teaching #positive #engagement #relationships #meaning #accomplishment #teacher #student #sel #teaching #learning #classrooms #research #perma #positivepsychology #teacherreflection… | Sabina Mammadova
I recently came across Martin Seligman’s #PERMA model (Theory of Happiness) while taking the "High Impact #Teaching" course by Jim Knight, I found it both simple and powerful to apply. At its core, PERMA focuses on the key elements that help people flourish, not just function: 🟡 P — #Positive Emotion It’s about intentionally increasing moments of positivity in everyday life. 🔵 E — #Engagement Being deeply absorbed in an activity, often described as being in “flow.” Time passes quickly because you are fully involved. 🟢 R — #Relationships Building supportive, meaningful connections with others. 🟣 M — #Meaning Belonging to and serving something bigger than yourself. Having a purpose in life helps individuals focus on what is really important in the face of significant challenge or adversity. 🟠 A — #Accomplishment Achieving goals, making progress, and feeling competent. Even small wins contribute to wellbeing. Inspired by the PERMA model, these five reflection questions (shared in the course) can support both #teacher and #student wellbeing: 1. How positive was my day? → What moments brought joy, gratitude, or optimism? 2. How engaged was I? → When did I feel fully absorbed or in flow? 3. How healthy were my relationships? → How did I connect, support, or collaborate with others? 4. How meaningful were my activities? → Did what I did today matter to me or to others? 5. What did I accomplish? → What progress, big or small, did I make? 💡 From a social and emotional learning (#SEL) and effective #teaching perspective, these elements are important to consider when creating a positive, supportive #learning environment. Sometimes we are already applying many of these practices in our #classrooms, without realizing there is strong #research behind them. You may already be doing more than you think. 💬 Which PERMA elements are you already intentionally (or unintentionally) embedding in your teaching? 🌐 The link for the detailed (Seligman’s PERMA+ Model Explained: A Theory of Wellbeing) information: https://lnkd.in/eUM-ujCd #PERMA #PositivePsychology #TeacherReflection #StudentWellbeing #SEL #WellbeingInEducation #IB #TeachingTips #Teacher #ScienceTeacher #BiologyTeacher #InstructionalCoach #EdTechSpecialist #Education

This idea really caught my attention: the 10-10-10 rule introduced by Suzy Welch (2009). It’s a simple yet powerful framework for making clearer, more balanced decisions by asking: 🟡 How will this affect my life in 10 minutes, 10 months, and 10 years? The idea is simple, before making a decision, pause and reflect: 🌐 How will this affect my life in 10 minutes? (short-term impact: emotions, immediate consequences) 🌐 How will this affect my life in 10 months? (mid-term impact: progress, relationships, workload) 🌐 How will this affect my life in 10 years? (long-term impact: values, purpose, big picture) Sometimes, a brief pause and three questions can completely shift our perspective, both as educators and as leaders. 💬 You can model this with a small #activity: Ask students to pick one learning decision they made this week and reflect through the 10-10-10 lens. This builds #self-regulation, #metacognition, and #motivation. #DecisionMaking #TeacherReflection #SEL #EducationLeadership #TeachingTips #Teacher #Education #ScienceTeacher #BiologyTeacher #EdTechSpecialist #InstructionalCoach
#growthmindset #developed #research #skill #yet #learning #students #subjects #reduction #mathematics #study #growth #ability #effort #strategies #support #fixed #learning #process | Sabina Mammadova
The concept of #growthmindset, the belief that intellectual abilities can be #developed rather than fixed, was popularized by psychologist Professor Carol S. Dweck and has been widely studied in educational #research. One key idea she emphasizes is the power of “Not Yet”: instead of labeling a student as failing or unable to master a #skill, we frame it as “You haven’t mastered this #yet.” This simple word encourages persistence, #learning from mistakes, and the understanding that ability grows over time. 📌 Key Research Findings A major randomized controlled trial published in Nature (2019) examined growth mindset interventions delivered online to ninth‑grade #students in the United States: 1️⃣ GPA improvement: Lower-achieving students who received the growth mindset intervention earned 0.10 more grade points (on a 4.0 scale) in core #subjects compared to those in the control group. 2️⃣ Reduction in poor performance: The percentage of students earning a GPA below 2.0 (D/F grades) declined from 46% to 41%, a relative #reduction of about 11%. 3️⃣ Advanced course enrollment: Students who received the intervention were 3 percentage points more likely to enroll in advanced #mathematics courses the next year (from 33% to 36%). This #study involved thousands of students and was designed to be representative of U.S. secondary education. 🧠 What Growth Mindset and “Not Yet” Mean: - #Growth mindset refers to the belief that intelligence and #ability can be developed with #effort, learning #strategies, and #support. - In contrast, a #fixed mindset views ability as static and unchangeable. The “Not Yet” framing encourages students to see #learning as a #process: failure is not permanent, and mastery is achievable over time 😊 📽️ The link for the video: Carol Dweck (TEDx talks) - The power of believing that you can improve https://lnkd.in/g6m89vmT 📚 Works Cited: 1. 🌎 Most #teachers happy in their jobs, says OECD (2025) A new analysis by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (#OECD), based on the Teaching and Learning International Survey (#TALIS), paints a largely positive but nuanced, picture of teacher #wellbeing worldwide. Key findings: - 9 in 10 teachers report being satisfied with their #jobs across OECD systems. - Almost 95% say they often feel happy while #teaching. - Nearly three-quarters would choose teaching again as a #career. - The survey covered ~280,000 teachers and #school leaders in 55 education systems. Despite high overall #satisfaction, the data highlights important tensions: 🔸 #Salary satisfaction is much lower. ✳️ Only around 2 in 5 teachers are satisfied with their pay on average. 🔸 This shows wellbeing ≠ compensation satisfaction. ✳️ Among teachers under 30, this rises to 20%. 🔸 Job satisfaction strongly matters: satisfied teachers are five times less likely to plan to leave. ✳️ Stress still present. 🔸 Roughly 1 in 5 teachers report experiencing a lot of stress. And 17% still plan to leave within five years ... 🌐 The link for the article: https://lnkd.in/gf8daQ8t #OECD #TALIS #TeacherWellbeing #TeacherSatisfaction #EducationLeadership #EdLeadership #EdResearch #DataInEducation #TeacherSupport #FutureOfEducation #InternationalEducation #K12Education #HigherEducation #Education #Teacher #ScienceTeacher #BiologyTeacher #InstructionalCoach #EdtechSpecialist #Article

🌎 Part 2. Teacher #satisfaction and intention to leave. What does the #data show: The OECD TALIS 2024 data reveals a clear and important pattern. Teachers who are satisfied with their #employment terms are significantly less likely to #plan to leave the profession within five years. 📊 Key insights from the chart • There is a strong negative relationship between satisfaction and intention to leave. • Even in systems where teachers are generally satisfied, salary remains a weaker point. • The OECD average confirms that improving working conditions can significantly reduce potential teacher attrition. This data reinforces an important message. Teacher retention is not only about recruitment. It is strongly connected to how supported teachers feel in their roles. Improving employment conditions, recognition, and compensation is likely to have a direct impact on keeping teachers in the profession. 📌 Webb’s Depth of Knowledge (#DOK) Framework I’ve been exploring #Webb’s Depth of #Knowledge (DOK), and I really like how this #framework helps teachers think beyond whether #students just know something. It’s about how deeply they need to engage their thinking to actually apply it. While it’s similar to #Bloom’s Taxonomy, DOK really emphasizes the level of mental effort required, which makes it such a useful tool for #designing lessons, activities, and assessments. Four Levels of Webb’s DOK 🟡 DOK Level 1 – #Recall & Reproduction - Requires recall of facts, definitions, or procedures. - Tasks often involve one-step or simple actions. ✳️ Examples: - Define a term. - List the steps in a process. 🟡 DOK Level 2 – #Skills & Concepts - Requires some mental processing, reasoning, or application of skills. - Tasks often involve comparing, organizing, or summarizing. ✳️ Examples: - Interpret a simple graph or chart. - Explain cause and effect. 🟡 DOK Level 3 – Strategic #Thinking - Requires reasoning, planning, and using evidence. - Tasks are more complex, often with multiple steps. ✳️ Examples: - Analyze the impact of historical events. - Draw conclusions from experimental data. 🟡 DOK Level 4 – #Extended Thinking - Requires high-level thinking and synthesis over time. - Often involves investigation, designing, or creating new understanding. ✳️ Examples: - Design and conduct a science experiment. - Develop a solution to a real-world problem. - Write a research report synthesizing multiple sources. #WebbsDepthOfKnowledge #DOK #Framework #CognitiveComplexity #Students #Learning #Education #Teaching #LessonDesign #Assessment #CriticalThinking #ProblemSolving #Analysis #Synthesis #HigherOrderThinking #BloomVsDOK #InstructionalDesign #EduTech #LearningObjectives #StudentEngagement #ClassroomStrategies #EducationTools #EvidenceBasedTeaching #LearningOutcomes #Teacher #ScienceTeacher #BiologyTeacher #InstructionalCoach #EdTechSpecialist #Linkedin

🟡 #Marzano’s Taxonomy - An Alternative to #Bloom’s While many of us are familiar with #Bloom’sTaxonomy, I’ve recently been revisiting Marzano’s #Taxonomy of Educational Objectives and it offers a powerful shift in how we think about #learning. What stands out to me is that Marzano doesn’t focus only on #cognitive processes. The #model reminds us that learning is influenced by three #interconnected systems: 🔹 #Self-system — Do students value the task? Are they #motivated to engage? 🔹 #Metacognitive system — How well do students #plan, monitor, and evaluate their learning? 🔹 #Cognitive system — How do students #process and use knowledge? This structure resonates strongly with what we see in real #classrooms. Before deep thinking happens, students first decide whether the learning matters to them, something Bloom’s does not explicitly address. Marzano's Taxonomy of Educational Objectives 🟡 Level 1: Self-System (Highest influence) Focus: Motivation and engagement Students decide whether to invest effort. - Is this important to me? - Can I succeed? - How do I feel about this? ✅ Classroom examples: - Setting personal learning goals - Reflecting on interest or confidence - Evaluating importance of a task 🟡 Level 2: Metacognitive System Focus: Planning, monitoring, evaluating learning Students manage their own thinking. - Goal setting - Strategy selection - Self-monitoring - Self-evaluation ✅ Classroom examples: - Planning an investigation - Checking progress during a task - Reflecting on what worked 🟡 Level 3: Cognitive System Focus: Actual thinking and knowledge use This level has four sub-levels (roughly parallel to Bloom but more precise): 🔹 Retrieval - Recognizing - Recalling - Executing simple procedures 🔹 Comprehension - Integrating - Symbolizing 🔹 Analysis - Matching - Classifying - Error analysis - Generalizing 🔹 Knowledge Utilization (Highest cognitive level) - Decision making - Problem solving - Experimental inquiry - Investigation For me, Marzano’s framework is particularly useful when: 🔸 designing #inquiry-based learning 🔸 strengthening #student self-regulation 🔸 supporting #ATL skill development (especially in #IB contexts) 🔸 moving beyond task difficulty toward thinking #complexity Bloom’s remains useful, but Marzano reminds us that how students manage and value their learning matters just as much as how they think. 💬 Do you use Bloom’s, Webb’s DOK, Marzano, or a blend of frameworks? #MarzanosTaxonomy #EducationalLeadership #InstructionalDesign #Assessment #IBEducation #InquiryBasedLearning #Metacognition #StudentAgency #TeachingStrategies #CurriculumDesign #Teacher #ScienceTeacher #BiologyTeacher #InstructionalCoach #EdTechSpecialist #Linkedin

Many of us use #Bloom’s Taxonomy, but are we truly using its full power? 🤔 I recently revisited Bloom’s framework. At its core, Bloom’s Taxonomy is a structured way to measure how deeply learners #understand content, not just what they remember. What stood out to me most is the progressive nature of thinking. Learning doesn’t jump from memorising facts straight to critical thinking. Instead, it builds layer by layer. The revised taxonomy (2001) emphasises this active progression through six cognitive levels: 1. Remember 2. Understand 3. Apply 4. Analyse 5. Evaluate 6. Create Each level increases in complexity, and importantly, learners typically need strong foundations before moving upward. If students can’t remember key #concepts, they will struggle to understand them and without understanding, meaningful application becomes nearly impossible. What I appreciate most is how practical Bloom’s framework is for #planning. When learning objectives are aligned with the right cognitive level, it becomes much easier to: - design purposeful #lessons - choose appropriate #assessments - differentiate #learning experiences - move students toward deeper #thinking The shift in the revised taxonomy from nouns to action verbs also reinforces something important: learning is active, not passive. In busy classrooms, it’s easy to stay at the lower levels (remember & understand). They are quicker to assess and easier to plan. But the real magic happens at the top of the pyramid, when students analyse, evaluate and create. That’s where ownership, transfer, and genuine deep learning live. 🌐 The link for the article: https://lnkd.in/gqZvAEmA Which level of Bloom’s Taxonomy do your students spend most of their time? #BloomsTaxonomy #TeachingStrategies #InstructionalDesign #DeeperLearning #Assessment #EducationLeadership #Teachers #LearningDesign #Teacher #ScienceTeacher #BiologyTeacher #InstructionalCoach #EdTechSpecialist #Education

"Facilitating a #discussion is always a delicate dance since people, young and old, often express more negative than positive comments in #groups. Teachers can #moderate student comments, ensuring a #balance of perspectives while also ensuring that #student feel that their comments are welcome. Sometimes teachers need to take a #critical, negative comment, such as "I don't think any adults care about us in this #school," and turn into a #constructive comment, such as "What would it look and feel like if you felt the adults here really did #care?" or "What are some simple things #adults could do to show you that they care?" Sometimes we use gamification and game-based learning as if they mean the same thing, but they actually serve different purposes. Looking closely at this #comparison reminded me of an important takeaway: 🟡 Gamification is mainly about increasing #motivation and participation. 🟣 Game-based learning is about helping students actually learn specific content or #skills through play. 🟡 With gamification, you keep your #lesson but add game elements to it. 🟣 With game-based learning, the game itself becomes the #learning experience. 🟡 Gamification often targets behaviour, #engagement, effort, and persistence. 🟣 Game-based learning focuses more on #understanding concepts and building skills. 🟡 Gamification usually includes points, #badges, leaderboards, or streaks. 🟣 Game-based learning includes rules, #challenges, storylines, and meaningful gameplay. 🟡 Gamification can sometimes stay at a surface level if not designed carefully. 🟣 Game-based learning has stronger potential for deeper conceptual #understanding. 🟡 Gamification is generally quicker and easier to add to existing lessons. 🟣 Game-based learning usually requires more intentional #planning and #design. 🟡 In gamification, progress is often tracked through points or #rewards. 🟣 In game-based learning, assessment is often embedded within the #gameplay itself. 🟡 Gamification: giving badges for completing homework or participating. 🟣 Game-based learning: using a #simulation game to explore ecosystems or economics. Both can be powerful, but only when we are intentional about why and how we use them. In my experience, the real impact happens when we move beyond #engagement for its own sake and design for deep #learning, meaningful challenge, and clear learning goals. I tried a new approach for #group formation in #project based learning recently, and it worked better than I expected! The key was making a deal with the #students. I wanted to use a random #group picker, but the students weren’t too excited about that, after all, they might not end up to be in the same group with their friends 😬 I didn’t want to ignore their opinions 🤔 So I asked them how we could organize the groups in a way that felt fair. One student suggested this compromise: run the random picker three times and let the class #vote on which version to use. I agreed, and we gave it a try. Here’s what we did: I ran the random picker three times, displayed screenshots on the TV, and students voted for their favorite version. The combination with the most votes became our final groups. Because we made a deal, students felt heard and involved in the process. Otherwise, they might always want to work with the same groups in projects. I think this is a simple but effective way to use random group picking while also letting students #contribute their #ideas and take part in #decision making. A small strategy, but it made a big difference in how students engaged with the process 😃 #Education #StudentVoice #Teaching #ClassroomCulture #StudentEngagement #Teacher #ScienceTeacher #BiologyTeacher #InstructionalCoach #EdTechSpecialist #GroupFormation #ProjectBasedLearning #Students #StudentVoice #ClassroomCulture #StudentEngagement #Teaching #Education #LearningStrategies #ClassroomManagement #StudentParticipation #EdTech #Collaboration

I would like to share my #experience designing an effective #rubric for #group work. As we know, not all #students contribute equally in group #projects, some put in more effort than others. To address this and ensure fairness, I designed a rubric and shared it with my #students. The grading was split evenly: 50% for #group performance and 50% for #individual contributions. #Criteria: 1 – Needs Improvement | 2 – Satisfactory | 3 – Good | 4 – Excellent 🟡 #Content Accuracy 1 - Most information is missing or incorrect. 2 - Some correct information; a few key details missing or inaccurate. 3 - Most information is correct; minor errors or missing details. 4 - All information is accurate and complete; shows strong understanding of the topic. 🟡 #Visual Presentation 1 - Poster is messy, hard to read, or missing graphs/diagrams. 2 - Poster is somewhat organized; some visuals included. 3 - Poster is organized; graphs, charts, and diagrams are clear. 4 - Poster is very well-organized and visually appealing; graphs, charts, and diagrams are accurate and engaging. 🟡 Team #Collaboration 1 - Group members did not share tasks; most work done by 1–2 people. 2 - Some collaboration; some members contributed more than others. 3 - Most group members participated and shared tasks fairly. 4 - All group members actively contributed; work is well-balanced and collaborative. 🟣 Self-Reflection / #Growth (Which skill did you improve during this project?) 1 - Minimal reflection; skill improvement is unclear or missing. 2 - Some reflection; identifies one skill with few details. 3 - Clear reflection; identifies a skill and briefly explains improvement. 4 - Thoughtful reflection; clearly explains skill improvement and impact on the project. 🟣 #Curiosity (What was new for you during this project?) 1 - Limited answer; little evidence of new learning. 2 - Basic answer; identifies something new but explanation is vague. 3 - Clear answer; identifies new learning with some examples. 4 - Insightful answer; explains new knowledge or experiences in detail with examples. 🟣 Quality of #Individual Section (The part you personally completed) 1 - Section incomplete or unclear. 2 - Basic understanding but lacks detail. 3 - Mostly clear and accurate. 4 - Accurate, detailed, and clearly explained. I applied this rubric with Grade 6 and 7 #classes. The first three criteria, Content Accuracy, Visual Presentation, and Team Collaboration, focused on group performance. The remaining criteria assessed each student individually, they were asked: - Which skill did you improve? - What was new for you during this project? - What was your contribution to the group work/project? This rubric helped me grade more fairly and ensured that individual effort was recognized in group work. It’s simple, #flexible, and can be applied to any #subject. #Teacher #InstructionalCoach #ScienceTeacher #BiologyTeacher #EdTechSpecialist #GroupWork #ProjectBasedLearning #StudentEngagement #Assessment

#rubric #students #skills #ethically #graph #ai #analyzing #strategy #teach #responsibly #plagiarism #cite #tools #awareness #ib #boundaries #teaching #resources #ib #assessment #teacher… | Sabina Mammadova
As I shared before, I am using a #rubric to help #students reflect on which #skills they improved and what was new for them. One response really stood out: a Grade 6 student responded that he improved his skill in using AI #ethically. The task involved generating a #graph with #AI, #analyzing it independently, and explaining the trends. This response made me reflect: as educators, banning AI or refusing to let students use it is not a useful #strategy. AI is already a part of their lives, if not at school, then at home. The better approach is to #teach students how to use AI #responsibly: how to follow #plagiarism rules, #cite correctly, and use AI ethically. If we guide them this way, students can gradually become more aware of how to use these #tools appropriately. This #awareness doesn’t happen overnight, but over time it can develop, similar to how #IB and other curricula teach plagiarism rules 👩🏫 I’m not giving this as advice, I’m also learning and experimenting. Slowly, I believe we can cultivate ethical awareness around AI use. The same applies to devices, they have advantages and disadvantages. It’s not about letting students use them all day, but about setting #boundaries and #teaching responsible use. To support this thinking, I will be sharing a few #resources on "Artificial Intelligence (AI) in learning, teaching, and assessment", also “Artificial Intelligence in IB Assessment and Education: A Crisis or an Opportunity?” from the International Baccalaureate (#IB). #education #bloom #framework #webbs #dok #learning #knowledge #comprehension #application #analysis #synthesis #evaluation #remember #understand #apply #analyze #evaluate #create #education… | Sabina Mammadova
Few weeks ago, I came across the idea that in #education we usually refer to the revised version of #Bloom’s Taxonomy. This made me curious about the original version, so I started exploring how the #framework has evolved over time. While researching, I gathered some insights and created a poster comparing the original and revised versions. A short summary is below, and the poster highlights the key differences. One detail I found interesting is that the revised version was developed by Lorin Anderson, a former student of Benjamin Bloom, together with David Krathwohl 🤔 Recently, I have also been exploring and applying frameworks such as #Webbs Depth of Knowledge (#DOK) and will share my experiences soon. Sometimes we hear the names of these frameworks quite often, but we may not fully understand what they actually mean in practice. In some cases, we might already be applying elements of them without realizing it. In other cases, we might want to use them but are unsure how to start 🤷♀️ That is why I wanted to share some information about these frameworks along with my own experiences using them. Bloom’s Taxonomy: Original vs. Revised 🟡 Original Bloom’s Taxonomy (1956) The original Bloom’s Taxonomy was developed in 1956 by Benjamin Bloom and colleagues to classify educational #learning objectives. It focused on types of thinking skills students use when learning. Levels (lowest → highest): 🔸 #Knowledge – Recall facts and basic concepts 🔹 #Comprehension – Understand information 🔸 #Application – Use information in new situations 🔹 #Analysis – Break information into parts 🔸 #Synthesis – Combine elements to form a new structure 🔹 #Evaluation – Make judgments based on criteria 🌐 Key characteristics - Uses noun-based categories - Focuses on knowledge accumulation - Presented as a hierarchical pyramid - Widely used for curriculum design and assessment 🟣 Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy (2001) In 2001, Bloom’s taxonomy was revised by Lorin Anderson and David Krathwohl. The revision made it more action-oriented for teaching and assessment. Levels (lowest → highest): 🔸 #Remember – Recall information 🔹 #Understand – Explain ideas or concepts 🔸 #Apply – Use information in new situations 🔹 #Analyze – Draw connections among ideas 🔸 #Evaluate – Justify decisions or opinions 🔹 #Create – Produce new or original work 🌐 Key characteristics - Uses verbs instead of nouns - Emphasizes active cognitive processes - Synthesis moved and renamed to “Create” and placed at the highest level - Introduces two dimensions: Knowledge dimension (factual, conceptual, procedural, metacognitive) and Cognitive process dimension. #Education #BloomTaxonomy #TeachingStrategies #InstructionalDesign #LearningFrameworks #CurriculumDesign #EducationalLeadership #EdTech #InstructionalCoaching #TeachingAndLearning #DepthOfKnowledge #TeacherDevelopment #ScienceTeacher #BiologyTeacher #EdTechSpecialist #InstructionalCoach
