Our #article, "ChatGPT - Assisted Codebook Design for #Learning Analytics Datasets in Multiple Languages: A Case Study," has been accepted for presentation at the International #Conference on Quantitative Ethnography (ICQE) 2025 in Mexico 🇲🇽 this October!
This work is part of a larger research project conducted with #STEM teachers in Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 , Estonia 🇪🇪 , and Finland 🇫🇮 , with contributions from the University of Jyväskylä (Finland), University of Pennsylvania (USA 🇺🇸), and myself, alongside Ayaz Karimov, who co-led the Azerbaijan part of the study.
It is rewarding to see the outcomes of a #study that we initiated three years ago.
The study explores how #AI (GPT-4o) can support the development of inductive, #data-driven #codebooks for #qualitative research, particularly in underrepresented languages such as Azerbaijani and Finnish. While GPT-4o demonstrated strong potential in identifying relevant #codes and enabling multilingual #analysis, we also observed limitations in generating accurate examples for less-resourced languages. To overcome this, human moderation and evaluation played a vital role in refining the #codebooks and ensuring clarity.
