Violence against women and girls (VAWG) is among the foremost widespread human rights infringement [1]. In the context of Bangladesh, the scenario is not different from other countries. Therefore, we worked to develop a smartphone-based solution for this problem. Here are some of my thoughts regarding this solution:
1. When a woman/child will go outside, the app will inform whether the place is risky or not. Previous years' violence data of our country's different places will be stored in a database. Then, analyzing that data app, the app will inform an information seeker.
2. When a victim will press the power button two times, the app will call 999 (national helpline of Bangladesh) and will track the current location to send an emergency message containing the current location to the pre-saved five contact numbers, nearest Thana, and RAB office. The relatives will be able to find the victim easily as the location will be updated to them every moment. Moreover, the app will start recording, and capturing photos(the app will save face-detected photos) using front and rear cameras to capture the terrorist.
3. There will be emergency contact numbers like 999, and 109 ( National Helpline to Protect Violence against Women and Children ) to get instant help.
We were selected for Hack_A_Day 2018 under the category "Violence against Women & Children", arranged by Dept. of Computer Science and Engineering, BUET. In the hackathon, we developed a prototype. I along with two enthusiastic students (Md. Ezazul Haque and Md Atiquer Rahman) of IIT, University of Dhaka worked on this project where I served the team as a leader.
