Pressbooks User Group Meeting hosted on May 5, 2026 by Steel Wagstaff and Jenn Martin. This month's topic was "Onboarding and Supporting New End Users."
Have you been curious about using AI tp develop and publish open educational resources? This presentation explores how generative AI can support the development and publishing of Open Educational Resources (OER), discussing transparency, licensing, and attribution considerations when using AI in open development and publishing.
Have you been curious about using AI-created ancillaries? In this session, we discuss creating AI-powered ancillaries with open educational resources to save time and effort in your course preparation.
This session, presented at the 2025 Open Education Conference, breaks down the U.S. Department of Justice’s new accessibility rule and what it means for open educational resource (OER) creators. Using the SLIDE framework - Style, Links and Navigation, Images, Design, and Evaluation - I shared a practical workflow for improving accessibility in OER publishing.
This panel focused on the interconnected themes of accessibility, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and intersectionality. During this panel, we discussed how these concepts inform and enhance inclusive teaching practices, ensuring equitable learning experiences for all students.
In this presentation, we explored the core principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and its transformative impact on education. The session provided a comprehensive overview of UDL's strategies and benefits, illustrating how educators could implement these concepts to create more accessible and effective learning experiences for all students.
In this workshop, we shared insights and strategies on designing educational escape rooms and text games. The workshop covered the fundamental principles behind these engaging learning tools, highlighting how they can be used to enhance student interaction and problem-solving skills, and also demonstrated how to create such experiences that blend educational objectives with interactive gameplay, providing practical tips and examples from our own projects.
After the workshop, I created a text game using Twine, which was an adaptation of an escape room game I wrote about in an article titled, Games, Fun, and Learning: An Educational Escape Room on Campus. In this game, players embark on an adventure to help Reese, who is trapped in the 5th century, return to the 21st century.
In this presentation, we guided participants through the process of designing and building a virtual educational escape room. The session covered key elements of virtual game design, from conceptualizing educational goals to incorporating interactive challenges that align with course objectives. We also showcased tools and techniques to create engaging, immersive environments that promote active learning and collaboration in an online setting.
In this presentation, I explored best practices for creating Open Educational Resources (OER) that are fully accessible. The presentation focused on ensuring that OER materials meet accessibility standards, providing practical strategies for making documents, images, and multimedia content usable for all learners, including those with disabilities.
In this presentation, I shared insights and practical advice on the process of publishing in peer-reviewed academic journals. The session covered key topics such as selecting the right journal, preparing manuscripts, navigating the submission and review process, and responding to feedback from reviewers.
