This page explains how collections and remixes/adaptations work under Creative Commons licensing and illustrates how the Presentations and Workshops section of my portfolio functions as a Creative Commons collection.
A collection brings together independent works, such as presentations, articles, or images, without changing them. Each item retains its original license, while the organization or presentation of the collection can have its own license.
The Presentations and Workshops page in my protfolio is a collection of my CC BY 4.0 slide decks. Each presentation remains under its original license, and together they form an openly accessible, curated resource. In other words,
Each work keeps its original CC license.
The collection itself can have a separate license covering the arrangement and presentation.
Original attributions must be preserved.
A remix or adaptation modifies or builds upon existing works to create something new. Examples include:
Translating a presentation or article into another language
Combining multiple slides or images into a new work
Editing or remixing audio or video clips
Some important licensing considerations for Remixes include:
Only works that allow adaptations (no ND restriction) can be remixed.
Remixes must provide attribution to original creators.
If an original work has a ShareAlike (SA) license, the remix must also use the same license.
When creating or sharing either collections or remixes, it is important to respect licenses and provide clear attribution.
include proper attribution for each included work.
apply a license to the collection itself, but do not override individual licenses.
clearly indicate that the collection is a curation of independent works.
check that each source work allows derivatives.
credit original creators and indicate any changes made.
use the same license if required by ShareAlike.
