Broadcast Journalism Portfolio
My name is Rylie Robinson, and I am a Senior at Tupelo High School. I joined WTHS my freshman year, which was the first time I was ever introduced to any sort of Journalism. During my first year, I learned how to write a script, frame interviews, edit a package, shoot video, and so much more. It didn't take long for me to realize just how much I have enjoyed Journalism! Over the years, I have had the opportunity to attend several conventions, including National and Regional ones. Since my Sophomore year, I have been on the executive bored and this year, I was given the honor to serve as one of the Co-Executive Producers for WTHS. These past four years with WTHS have truly been some of the best times, and I am so grateful to have had so many opportunities offered to me through this class!
SIPA 2023
SIPA was the first convention I had the opportunity to attend. I wasn't sure what to expect, but overall I had a good time. I was able to attend sessions and learn more about Journalism and bring home tips to improve not only my skills, but my classmates' as-well.
JEA/NSPA National Journalism Convention 2024
Last November, I attended the JEA/NSPA National Journalism Convention in Philadelphia. This was the first National Convention I attended. During the trip, I was able to make friends from all over the country and experience so many new things. I also attended many sessions with speakers from various states and hear their best tips on Journalism. I was able to bring home many notes that have helped me with my writing, leadership skills, editing, and more. Overall, the trip was very fun and I enjoyed being able to explore the city with my fellow staff members and the new friends I made.
JEA/NSPA National Journalism Convention 2025
This past November, I attended the National Journalism Convention that was held in Nashville, Tennessee. I was able to meet up with some of the friends I made in Philadelphia last year and make even more friends. I attended various sessions each day and was able to learn more about Journalism. On the last day, we attended the awards ceremony where I was given my first National Award. I received Honorable Mention for a sports story I produced during the first semester of this year. With this being my last National Convention, I can say that it was well spent and overall a great trip with my classmates. I am so glad I had the opportunity to attend!
