The Beginning
At first, writing a script didn't come easy. I struggled finding the right words to say and how to lead into an interview. It was hard writing in a Journalism tone compared to writing an English Essay. I had to learn to write in a neutral and conversational tone.
Upcoming Star
This was one of the first scripts I wrote during my freshman year. This story focuses on a very talented freshman football player, Ja'Reylan McCoy. I had the opportunity to interview multiple people about Ja'Reylan including his mom, one of the coaches, and a fellow teammate. The amount of interviews I was able to get helped show how big of an impact Ja'Reylan had on the team and gave me more information to work with.
The Growth
Over the years, my writing skills have continued to improve. I've learned that asking more in depth questions during interviews helps you get more information to write with. I have also gotten better at leading into a soundbite.
Currently
Writing scripts can still be a challenge sometimes. I still find myself getting stuck and not sure how to write out what I want to say. Each year that I've been in WTHS, I have learned new ways to improve the work I produce. Looking back at my Freshman year, my scripts were short and not filled with as much information. Overall, my writing skills have greatly improved, but there is still much I can learn.
