Work History
Sanctuary AI: Controls Engineer - May 2022 - Current
At Sanctuary AI I work as a controls engineer develop a variety of controllers for our general purpose humanoid robots.
Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition (IHMC): Visiting Student Research Intern - Summer 2021
As a research intern at IHMC I had the opportunity to work on a team developing the cutting-edge hydraulic humanoid robot Nadia. Over the summer I was able to work on low-level controls for the MOOG Integrated Smart Actuators (ISAs) and performed system identification to develop more accurate feedforward models.
Price Industries: Machine Designer - March-July 2020
My first full time engineering position after completing my bachelors was at Price Industries where I worked in the Machine Development Center as a machine designer. My role as a machine designer allowed me to work on factory automation mechatronics projects from designing new machines, improving and repairing older machines, and developing PLC and HMI controls.
Fluid Power and Telerobotics Research Laboratory (University of Manitoba): Research Assistant - Summer 2019
Over the summer of 2019 I was able to participate in research in Dr. Nariman Sepehri's lab at the University of Manitoba conducting research on the integration of computer vision with teleoperated hydraulic manipulators as a means to increase safety in human-machine collaborative environments
Magellan Aerospace: Research and Development Intern - Summer 2017
At Magellan Aerospace I had the opportunity to work on a project centered around programming a 6DoF ABB robot arm to automate a manually intensive manufacturing process. The project utilized a collection of sensors including a laser range finder, machine vision camera, and force-torque sensor.
Canada Post: Process Engineering Coop Student - Fall 2016
My first engineering internship was at the Winnipeg Canada Post Mail Processing Plant where I worked as part of the process engineering department. While there I conducted a project in which I developed an automated tool that would provide up-to-date statistics to track mail through the plants parcel sorting system.
Personal
In my free time I enjoy playing guitar. I was trained classically but most of my involvement involvement with music now is squarely in the realm of unsophisticated caveman-eque hardcore. I played in a basement band with two of my bestfriends back home but had to stop practicing due to Covid and my subsequent moving. We never got to play an actual show but made phone recordings of all the songs we wrote on our last practice as a (horrible sounding) demo. I still write new music daily and hope to get an actual band together at some point in the future.
Outside of music I have trained a number of martial arts through out my life. Currently I participate in Sport Sambo and no gi bjj/submission wrestling. Previously I have boxed and also trained Kyokushin Karate for which I competed in the world junior opens in Japan in 2010.
