As a registered non-profit, the Rutherford relies on fundraising through donations.  Many of our families take advantage of corporate matching gifts through their employer to double their donation.  In the last three years, the Rutherford PTA has received over $13,000 in employee matches.  Find out how below!

What are corporate matching gifts

Corporate matching gifts are a type of philanthropy in which companies financially match donations that their employees make to registered nonprofit organizations. (Hint: the Rutherford PTA is a registered nonprofit!) We like to call this Free Money!

After an employee makes a donation to Rutherford PTA, they can request the matching gift from their employer, who then makes their own donation. Companies usually match donations at a 1:1 ratio, but some will match at a 2:1, 3:1, or even a 4:1 ratio!

Note: The PTA CAN NOT make the request, it must come from the employee.

why do companies match donations?

Companies of all sizes match donations their employees make to nonprofits because it’s an easy, structured way for them to support good work in their communities. It's also an important factor in how the public perceives brands.

how do i know if my company offers this program?

Refer to your employee handbook or simply ask your HR team or supervisor. Be sure to let them know the following: Rutherford Elementary PTA is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization (EIN#41-1913899).
