The workshop brought together the AURIN Victorian nodes for our annual planning session — a chance to step back and focus on the bigger picture. The morning opened with an overview of AURIN's current initiatives and strategic directions, followed by each node presenting their recent activities and ongoing research.

The RMIT Urban Dynamics Node (RUDY) and Swinburne's CityLab Node each showcased work spanning multiple research streams. We were also joined by two invited speakers who broadened the conversation significantly: Robert Glasgow, Project Manager at the Australian Internet Observatory, shared his expertise and highlighted just how large in scale and national in impact infrastructure research can be when scoped ambitiously. The RMIT AWS Cloud Supercomputing (RACE) Hub also presented, sharing the ideas, opportunities, and research capabilities that the RACE Hub infrastructure can offer to support and accelerate research across the network.

The centrepiece of the day was a 90-minute co-design session where participants worked collaboratively to develop new AURIN activity proposals — identifying opportunities for cross-node partnerships and shared research directions for the year ahead.

The session was a great success: 9 infrastructure proposals were submitted for review, and 3 were subsequently selected to become funded AURIN activities — now forming part of the Nodes 2026/27 Activity Plan
