First International Conference on the Systematics of the Rubiaceae

The First International Conference on the Systematics of the Rubiaceae was held at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis, Missouri, USA on 4–6 October 1993 and was organised by Charlotte M. Taylor and P. Mick Richardson.

This conference brought together experts on the family from around the world for the first time. At the time, the inclusion of Rubiaceae in Gentianales versus in its own order, Rubiales, was not fully resolved, and that is why this was a Rubiaceae only meeting. The idea of organising this Rubiaceae conference came from Peter Raven and Doug Stevens (Charlotte Taylor, pers. comm.). Selected proceedings of the conference were published in 1995 in Annals of the Missouri Botanical Garden 82(3): 355–439
