Project is seeking Masters and PhD students. Immediate openings with monthly allowance are available.
The studentship will investigate state-of-the-art techniques to improve existing lightning path detection algorithms. The successful student will work with Prof Morimoto in Kindai University, Japan. The student will interact with counterpart teams in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) led by Dr Riduan bin Ahmad and Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) led by Dr Zafri Baharuddin. Possible project topics are proposed, but not limited to, the following:
Development of real-time flash flood and lightning strike forecasting prototype
Design and development of Triggered Lightning Facility and Lightning Parameters Measurement Tools
Development of LF and VHF Lightning Sensors Network in the Klang Valley
Development of Dashboard and Apps for lightning strike real-time monitoring
Lightning Characterization using High Speed Camera Observation
Flashflood social study and prediction system
Applicants should have a good first degree (1st class or upper 2nd class honours degree or equivalent) and a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline by the time of registration.
Strong language capability in English or Japanese is required.
Background in programming, or computer science, or artificial intelligence, or electrical/electronics, or lightning physics is beneficial, but not required.
There are 2 PhD placements available. This studentship covers living expenses and tuition fees in Kindai University, Japan.
