The studentship will investigate state-of-the-art techniques to improve existing lightning path detection algorithms. The successful student will work with Dr Zafri Baharuddin (COE-EE) and Dr Farah Hani (COE-EE) or other research members. The student will interact with counterpart teams in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) led by Dr Riduan bin Ahmad and Kindai University Japan led by Prof Morimoto.  Possible project topics are proposed, but not limited to, the following:

1. Development of real-time flash flood and lightning strike forecasting prototype 

2. Design and development of Triggered Lightning Facility and Lightning Parameters Measurement Tools

3. Development of LF and VHF Lightning Sensors Network in the Klang Valley

4. Development of Dashboard and Apps for lightning strike real-time monitoring 

5. Lightning Characterization using High Speed Camera Observation 

6. Flashflood social study and prediction system
