Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) is a Japanese government program that promotes international joint research targeting global issues. The program is a collaboration between two Japanese government agencies: the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
SATREPS focuses on three research fields: Environment/Energy, Bioresources, and Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.
This project is funded by JICA, JST, and EPU (the Economic Planning Unit, of the Malaysian Prime Minister's Department). In Malaysia, the coordinator of the grant is the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE).
Members of the project have committed to the 5-year project via the signing of an official document on 27 September 2022. The project will officially begin in April 2023.
Site visits were conducted in March 2023 to determine the suitability of proposed lightning sensor sites all around the Klang Valley and Melaka areas.
