Strava

What is Strava?

Strava is a social fitness network, that is primarily used to track cycling and running exercise, using GPS data. Every athlete on Royal Cross Country is encouraged to create a free account.

What is on Strava?

Strava will record your distance, pace, elevation gains, heartbeat and more. Once on the app or on the web page, you can look at all your stats, give other athletes you follow Kudos, of fill in a comment about their run. You can also join challenges against other athletes.

HOW DO SET UP A DEVICE TO STRAVA?

You will first create an account on Strava. Once set-up choose your device.

Phone

If you want to use your phone, just download the Strava app. The app will use GPS to track your runs. The only downside is that you have to run with your phone. There is also an app if you have an apple watch. This is what I currently use and has the added feature of heart rate.

Garmin GPS

Syncing a Garmin watch with Strava, the app Garmin Connect has to be downloaded to your phone or computer. Data is usually transferred though bluetooth.

Note: If the Strava widget does not open, it may be due to a popup blocker. Right click and open in new page.

Lets go "viral" with a Corona Virus Challenge!

Covid-19 has changed the dynamic of the world overnight. Just like that, we were put into "social distancing." Runners like to be social and go the distance but of course...wrong idea. So I thought that we could do a challenge using Strava as a platform. While we are training solo, a challenge will give our runs meaning, a motivating factor if you will.

The Challenge will consist of 4 segments that you may do in any order. Combined time of all 4 segments wins.
