PHYSICAL PACKET REQUIRED BY ROYAL HIGH SCHOOL
The Athlete Physical Packet is to be turned into RHS Athletics Office/Athletic Clearing Process online, not the Coaches. A current physical must be on file. Returning Athletes, your physicals are good for a year starting on the day you last had a physical. For example, if you had a physical done August 12th 2023, it’ll be good until August 12th 2024. All incoming freshmen or student-athletes new to sports will need to get a physical. Physicals are good for all seasonal sports.

www.homecampus.com/login Note: when adding cross country, 'check' any other sport you will be in for winter and/or spring. This will save you the headache of having to add them at a later date.

RUNNING AND APPAREL
Running shoes
Running shoes are the most important investment for a runner. Since there’re many different types of feet there are many different types of shoes. Shoes need to fit properly to the athletes’ foot. Please do not buy a “sale” shoe simply to save money. The goal of a shoe is to keep your child on the trails and out of the doctor’s office. Visit a running specialty store, they know their stuff and are involved with the community.
Shoes should be replaced every 3-4 months or 400 mi to 500 mi.
You have several options for good running shoes.
Road Runner Sports (1714 Newbury Road, Newbury Park, CA 91320, 805-375-1415). We are looking at a possible fundraiser with Road Runner Sports, in mid-August. Great selection and staff will help you find the right fit for shoes.
Fleet Feet (30125 Agoura Rd Suite A, Agoura Hills, CA 91301, 818-991-4786). They will give discounts (10%) to runners on the team and will spend time finding the right shoe for you. If you don't like the shoe, take them back.
On Track and Field (4590 Ish Dr #100, Simi Valley, CA 93063, 800-697-2999). Mention you run for Royal HS and they will give you a discount. Good selection of shoes. Staff will help you find the right shoe for you.
DICK's Sporting Goods (176 W Hillcrest Dr, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360, 805-367-5032). All major brands, but limited selection for running shoes.
EACH RUNNER SHOULD HAVE AT PRACTICE
- Water bottle
- Digital watch (GPS optional)
- Sunblock
- Appropriate clothing and shoes
RUNNING DURING VACATION
- Most families will take vacation during summer. Please email Coach Luce the dates the runner will miss.
- It is important that the runner still runs daily as consistency is key.
- Parents should try to encourage and accommodate ½ hour to an hour for running to occur.
- Runs will need to be posted on STRAVA. Please see "Strava" tab on how to create a free account.
WORKING WITH OTHER SPORTS
It isn't always perfect, but we can usually make multiple sports work when all parties are on the same page. As an incoming runner , our goal is to get athletes to learn about our sport. Young athletes should be exposed to many sports. As athletes grow older, many will eventually concentrate on one or two sports. Many of our top runners have earned scholarships and access to top institutions across the Country. As a parent, it isn't a bad idea to open as many doors to college for your child.
YOU DECIDED TO JOIN XC LAST MINUTE OR DID NOT KNOW ABOUT SUMMER PRACTICE
Don't worry. Of course, having athletes on day one definitely helps but most incoming families often have very little idea about our sport or training thus why you are reading this now. :-) Most of our incoming 9th graders have very limited running during the start of the season. It is important to note that we train all athletes at their ability level. Our goal is just to get them out whenever we can. The first year is a huge learning curve. After that, runners have an idea of what to expect for the upcoming training.
