Workflows
For this section of research i will be gathering information on a range of workflows that are used in industry for animation. This will allow me to be proficient during production by using a workflow that is efficient and effective at producing animations.
During this section i will be looking at a range of blogs and videos to educate me on the main animation workflows. For each workflow i will find how they work, why they are effective and how i can implement them into this project.
About:
This video focuses on the animation layer workflow. It demonstrates how dynamic and useful they can be to help make other workflows (such as pose to pose) more efficient.
Why is this workflow effective ?
Animation layers allow animator's to split there animations into manageable sections, to make it easier to tweak the main motion in the animation or add the final details to help with secondary or overlapping action. Animation layers are usually integrated into other workflows as it helps make them more efficient as it allows animators to revert changes if something doesn't feel or look correct. Furthermore, animation layers can help animators adjust certain aspects of the animation (such as jump height) before they make it final to ensure they achieve the desired result.
evaluation
Ultimaley, animation layers are a great addition to any workflows as they make animation more manageable and efficient. During the production stage for this project i will make sure i use animation layers to help me be more proficient when creating my animations.

About:
This video includes multiple animation workflows and describes why each of them are effective. The workflows included in this video are Pose to Pose, Straight ahead, Layered Workflow, reference Blocking and Extremes. This video also mentions how workflows how each animator uses a different workflow. Typically people use a workflow that they are comfortable and confident with, As this allows for people to be proficient when making animations.
Why are these workflows effective ?
The pose to pose workflow is when you establish the key poses for a shot. As this helps block out the main poses for an animation. A technique called Thumbnailing is often used for this workflow, which allows you to sketch ideas before starting the animation. Some of the disadvantages to this workflow is that it lacks timing which is needed to make a fluid and high quality animation.
The straight ahead workflow is when you work from start to finish, focusing on the fluidity of the motion rather than the specific poses. This workflow is can be related with stop-motion animation as all movements are animated in sequence. As this workflow focuses on the fluidity of the motion is can lead to higher quality animations that are considered more 'dynamic'.
A layered workflow is when an animator breaks down movements into small sections to focus on the different motions separately. This workflow can be combined and implemented into other workflows such as pose to pose and straight ahead. This allows animators to break down their animations to easy to manage sections.
Reference Blocking revolves around using real life footage to capture intricate details of human movement as this helps with the timings in animations. This workflow is devicesive within the animation community as it could lead to much reliance on the reference video. Yet this workflow can also help to enhance the realism of you animations as it's based directly on human movement.
Extremes is the final workflow that i found useful to me in this video. This workflow is when you focus on the highest and lowest poses in your animation during its motion. This allows for an 'organic feel' by separating the extreme points of the animation.
evaluation
this video discusses how there is no perfect way to animate as different workflows work for different people. Within the industry animators are typically pushed to experiment with various workflows. for my project, i can use aspects from all these workflows as it will help me be the most efficient during production and gain practice with industry standard workflows. Pose to Pose is my usual animation workflow but i can implement aspects from other workflows into my current workflow to make me more proficient when animating.

About:
This video focuses on the pose to pose workflow, this video explains the concepts of how this workflow works.
Why is this workflow effective ?
The main premise of the pose to pose workflow is to 'Mimic' traditional techniques where each 3D pose correlates to a 2D drawing. The focus of this workflow is creating poses without extensive planning as it emphasises the importance of practice within animation. the 3 main stages of this workflow include Posing, Breakdown and timing and Finalizing the animation. These stages start with creating the main poses, making sure the motion in the animation smooth and finally ensuring all the arcs are moving correctly to ensure for a high quality final animation.
evaluation
Overall, this video has educated me on the pose to pose workflows by providing me with information on how to use it effectively. By providing me with tips such as the main stages of this workflow and what these include allowing me to be more proficient during each stage. The pose to pose workflow will have a heavy influence on my production stage as based in this video it proves to be an effective way to produce animations. In addition to this it is a workflow i am confident in as i have used it a few times for successful projects in the past.

Workflows Conclusion
To conclude, researching in workflows has been effective as it has educated me on a range of workflows and how to use them. Based on this research i will primarily be using the pose to pose workflow as i am the most confident with this workflow. Yet i will be implementing aspects from other workflows as this will help boost my efficiency during production. I will be implementing aspects such as animation layers and reference blocking these aspects fit in with the pose to pose workflow and help to make it better. Overall this research has been useful to me as i have knoe found the workflow i'm going to use during production to help me produce a high quality animation.
