About Rosebud County Search and Rescue
Rosebud County Search and Rescue (RCSAR) is a volunteer emergency response organization serving Rosebud County, Montana. We assist the Rosebud County Sheriff’s Office with search, rescue, and recovery operations when requested.
All Search and Rescue responses are coordinated through law enforcement. We do not self‑deploy.
Our History
Rosebud County Search and Rescue was founded on December 18, 1981, by Robert F. Ash and Gordon L. Berger. Since its founding, the team has served the residents of Rosebud County and, when requested, other counties within the state of Montana.
Our Mission
Our mission is to serve the residents of Rosebud County and other counties within Montana by assisting Law Enforcement Agencies during Search and Rescue operations.
When activated by the Rosebud County Sheriff’s Department, we provide volunteer assistance including transportation, manpower, and first aid to the best of our ability in support of Search and Rescue activities.
We train so “That Others May Live”
Our Team
Our team is made up of local volunteers who train regularly to operate safely and effectively during Search and Rescue incidents. Members work within established Search and Rescue and Incident Command procedures while supporting the Sheriff’s Office and other responding agencies.
Training & Readiness
Training and preparedness are essential to safe and effective Search and Rescue operations. Team members participate in ongoing training focused on navigation, communications, safety, and field operations.
