Lower Leg (8080 Rail Preparation)
Lower Leg (8080 Rail Preparation)
I had great difficulty finding affordable 8080 rail here in the frozen wasteland called Canada, I suggest you check facebook marketplace for some used rail if you can't find a cheap supply elsewhere.
Spend about an hour making sure your 'damn cheap' aluminum cutoff saw is actually square. Fine tune it on some cheap wood if you can... Then try on aluminum.
Cut the 8080 rail to be close to 30cm long. However as long as all 4 legs are cut to the exact same length you can be between 29cm and 30.5cm in length without much issue.
Next you need to thread all 8 holes with a Spiral Point Tap Metric M8 x 1.25 Thread . I found this on amazon that worked great https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0BFNSV538. --- Make sure you use Lubri-Cut on the tap (Cutting Paste for Drilling Metal - 10 Oz Tub - Made in Canada | Beeswax Cutting Oil for Drilling Metal | High Performance Tapping & Cutting Wax | Saw Blade Lubricant & Drill Cutting Fluid), or your life will suck way more than it should.
Very cheap Princess auto metal cutoff saw, built in 90 degree lock points are NOT EVEN CLOSE TO SQUARE. But it works if you take the time to check it by hand.
This is me before learning about cutting paste and spiral point taps (This was awful, broke about 4 of the hand taps, much regret...). It took hours by hand, but with a hand drill and a spiral point tap with lube it should take about 1 minute per hole.
