On Saturday 11th October the Natural Environment Committee has arranged a bird walk at Blashford Lakes. This is a Hampshire and Isle of Wight nature reserve, renowned for its birds, and we will be guided by Ian Packer, a member of Hampshire Ornithological Society, who lives locally and knows the reserve very well.
The walk will start at 9.30am and finish at 12.30pm, giving us ample time to visit the different habitats of the reserve. Autumn is a wonderful time for birds here - summer visitors have mostly left, though there may well be some stragglers, and winter visitors are arriving. With the vagaries of the weather, we never know what we might see. Ian will be on hand all morning to spot and identify for us.
You will need to bring a drink and snack with you and dress appropriately for the weather, with stout footwear, as we won’t be moving speedily! The total distance is approximately 3 miles, with some of the time spent in the hides. There are toilets on site but no café.
Places on this walk are limited and you will need to reserve your place(s) in advance by emailing Kate Allen at kate.allen49@googlemail.com with "Blashford" as the subject and giving names of attendees.
Some of us will be heading to a local pub for lunch afterwards . If you are interested in staying on for lunch too, please let me know and further details will be sent later when we know whether pre-orders are required.
